Top 5 most essential gear.
You have your half-stack, guitar, and a cord that connects the two. What are the top 5 most essential pieces of gear you need after that? Ok so the strings, plectrums, straps, and other little things are a GIVEN. What about rackmounts? Preamps? Equilizers? Compressors? The list goes on and on.

strap is given... so its considered 0 in my 1-5
1. duct tape... straplocks arent strong enough for a les paul thats guna be swingin around like a sledgehammer
2. 31 band equalizer in the fx loop
3. chromatic tuner (preferably pedal)
4. Delay, nothing sounds cooler than well calculated delay
5. booster pedal or a channel selector switch... anything to get those solos louder than the rhythm

How is duct tape stronger than a straplock, because i too have had a straplock rip out of my guitar when i swung it around my back, flew like a damn bird, quite embarassing. |

Please, stop slinging guitars around. The straplock might hold together just fine but the guitar wood will not. At least use longer wood screws, pre drill the holes, and put wood glue on the screw threads when installing the strap buttons. That will help more then anything else.

Anyhow, someone mentioned duct tape. Me and a few friends of mine has this theory, that you can't possibly be a serious muscian without having duct tape. There are always problems that need quick solving with duct tape. And duct tape will solve anything. If it doesn't then you haven't used enough duct tape.

Yes sir! I remember walpurgis' Lake Shore Park gig when they had no way to post a sign so I went to the Dollar Store up the street and got a roll of duct tape and a curtain rod. I had the sign up in about 5 minutes.
EDIT: Add generous roadie with wheels and credit card to that list.

About the air ducts... of course you can fix them with duct tape. Just start wrapping around today, singing a happt little tune, and sooner or later, you'll have a stable and well isolated duct duct.
