I intended on posting the artwork and logo yesterday, but the forums were fucked. And yes, I had closed the thread.

The artwork is different, and simple, and it "pops" which works along with what the content of the album is. Personally I like Pushead's work, and I can't make anyone like it, but wait until you hear the record and then check out the artwork, it may seem different then.

Another thing, they haven't assembled it into a package yet. The logo's not even on the finished artwork.

As soon as I saw it, I liked it's feel but it didn't make much sense. I actually stared at it awhile, and it grew on me a little bit more each time I did so.

I also put the logo onto the cover, just to see what it'd look like.

Now, I am closing this thread 'til the record comes out. Peace.

Well, I'd originally planned on keeping this shut until the record came out but since they've been releasing half minute clips every week or so, I'm re-opening.

I know most of you have heard the Frantic clip, but here's a 30 second clip from the title track, St. Anger. Haters beware, it's heavy.

I liked that clip. I heard there's no solo's in the new album at all, was this confirmed?

ohyeah, about Hetfields voice, is it just me or is his voice still good? I heard someone complaining about his voice sounding like shit....

I've never though Hetfield's voice went to shit, I think it's just evolved a bit more than people wanted and they call it such.

He still sounds like the James I always knew, just matured.

As for the no solos, it's true in a conventional sense. Any "solos" are more experimental on this album. Doesn't bother me one bit, a solo serves the fucking song not the other way around. Too many asshole guitarists seem to have that backwards.

when you put the logo on the artwork it looks pretty neat to be honest.
And the clip's cool to, but i dont really thing Hetfeld's high voice really fits in the heavy parts.

its ok. No master/ride/justice. I really don't think they should've used downtuned, cause they sound like a heavy nu metal band or something now. And yeah, the vocals dont fit it, and james shouldn't try yelling.

that St.Anger clip reminded me of Slipknot
***just the guitars/drums

id rather have this style than the load/re-load style though

I think anyone who is expecting it to be really good is gonna be dissapointed but we'll see

I saw the covers early this week, good stuff.

I give up posting new shit in this thread, it just gets over-analyzed to death. Especially when you post 30 seconds of music and the entire album is judged by that.

I'm officially abandoning this thread.

I've tried it, but since I heard the samples from Clad in Shadows I gave it up... It sounds really crap. It so nu metallish.... so not metallica... I'm not gonna buy this album, not even to finish my collection...

I am going to buy it, for fucks sake, all the commotion about it, I want to have it now too, and yes, also to finish my collection.

the artwork looks wicked, the front kinda reminds me of the 'nation' cd that sepultura released (the fist thing/drawing) anyways, I'm still looking forward to the release.

If you know it'll suck, based on the samples, it wont really be a risk. I'd bet nothing they release is gonna change your mind though, so you'll have saved the $12-17 (probably at the high end, if it's got a DVD), proving that internet music sharing does, in fact, work as it should, by protecting the consumer from unnecessary purchases.

I, on the other hand, am psyched for it. At the very least because Metallica can actually have the word 'metal' in their name again. Hard Rockica just doesnt have the right ring, despite being arguably more honest.

Exactly, thats what I do, I always d/l music first from the internet,
then ask about people's opinions, then if all averages out well, then I'll
buy the cd.

oh, well how many cds do you own??

cd's arent' expensive, it just depends on where you get them, I buy heaps of cd's, but I work a lot and shit, just get your cds at distros and stuff, some cds are more expensive, like the tallica one, but its worth the money, for fucks sake, even if its just because I want to complete my collection and I want the cd.

fuck that setlist is awsome!

I'm back, but only to relay some news that I forgot to put in here a couple days ago. This thread still reeks of overdone nu-metal arguments and everyone using that tired line needs to piss off.

On top of the bonus DVD, there's also some DVD-ROM content as well, at least from what I'm hearing. A link to a trailer for a Metallica video game, hehe, that's an interesting concept. It will also include an code to access exclusive live content from somewhere at Metallica.com and yes, the music is all downloadable.

Cool, I'm wondering about the DVD, probably contains the making of the St. Anger clip and shit at that prison.

I hear a lot of arguments on other forums which state metallica is selling out bla bla, but I'm going to buy the album to complete my collection and ofcourse I want to hear it and judge for myself as one of the first people

I don't hear it, which is good hehe, but I have yet to hear the whole cd to base an opinion, Its not like we heard that much of St. Anger yet...

I'm not sure if I will like the album either, the only way to find out is to buy it when it comes out, and see for myself...

tallica claims that the albuim comes standart with DVD, but at some mailorder cataloge in holland you can order the 'normal version' approx 18 euros and the 'version with DVD' for 24 euros (wich is a lot if they say its gonna be normal price)

The game is by a third party, not the band.

If it's anything like that Wu-Tang playstation game, it should be pretty funny. It's a nice excuse to play a game to Metallica music anyway.

No offence, but you´re the one who told us at the start of the thread that any whining about tallica being nu metal or sellouts would be deleted. I apologised so that it wouldn´t be deleted.

I said any of the usual crap about napster, or the sell out bullshit would be deleted. I never said that an opinion on the sound of the album would be.

Not quite, it's a radio rip and then encoded to 56kbps.

Is it just me or does this sound like nu-metal? I mean, James is playing a detuned guitar, and the riffs are really chunky. I'm pretty sure that detuned guitars and a raw mix automatically equals nu-metal because I'm a fucking dipshit..

Not only that, but during one part there's a double track of yelling in the background! That's so nu-metal! Remember how Deicide used to double track the vocals? They're so nu-metal! And, and, they had detuned guitars and a sludgy mix! What nu-metal cockheads. Now that I think about it, Morbid Angel do that too, especially on Gateways. Nu-metal, without a doubt.

The net nerds' reaction to St. Anger has gone pretty much exactly as I thought it would. It's hilarious how many people have ripped this song apart, and as with most everything that gets trashed on the net, it always starts with one guy's comments and snowballs from there. No one has anything original to add.

Anyways, I dig the title track alot. On first listened I was a bit shocked, I knew it was a rockin' track but thought it was way out there. After a few hundred listens now, I can still hear alot of vintage Metallica elements poking through, something I think the rest of you will probably start hearing upon repeat listens.

I've been pumped for this record for a long ass time, and the next 10 days or so are gonna be the longest.

That all being said, since I'm such a nice guy, I put up St. Anger for download. It's not the crappy radio rip you've all been hearing, this is straight off the radio promo CD all the stations got. Ripped at 192kbps and sounding kick ass!

Cool.

I saw the clip yesterday (st.anger)

first thing that got my attention where the heavy riffs, but I was sorta dissapointed in some of the breaks and the backing vocals.

the clip is pretty cool though hehe with all those prison folks

Hey sanderinos, if you're wondering where your post went here's your answer:

I'm all for freedom of speech man, but every time you post here you say the same damn thing, and I find that a little annoying, ridiculous and just plain fucking stupid. We know you don't like what you've heard, that's great. I embrace everyone's opinion no matter how ignorant or fuckwitted it may be, but give it a rest with the repetitive shit.

I heard about 30 seconds of the title track on the radio. I'm not too crazy about it, and I'm hoping that the rest of the album will be a bit better, but I'm definately buying this sucker.

Who knows, it could be cool or it could really suck. I'll wait 'til I've heard the whole damned thing.

There arent any solos because they probably felt the songs didnt need them. Personally, I feel that if a song doesnt need a solo the worst thing to do is include a solo. I think it even more strongly as no particular fan of Hammett.

Hotmail will never drop dead, Doctor.

i donno, maybe i'm the only guy who doesn't dig the new shit. I don't care about the whole solo thing, but all the clips sound the same. It sounds nothing like ..and justice for all. I think the whole thing is crap. Jame's lyrics are crap, he said in one of the jits videos that they didn't try as hard as they used to when song writing. Yeah, maybe they should have. Those lyrics just suck ass.I know i won't be ordering it.

Actually I'd wager that around 60-70% of the online community doesn't like the new material so you're not in the minority.

I've seen every JITS vid as well as every Metclub vid and James never said they didn't try as hard. He's been quoted saying that they let the vibe control their writing, not a deadline or unnecessary pressure as it always was in the past. Oh and if you don't like the lyrics, which you have every right not to, at least point your finger at every member of the band excluding Rob. They all pitched in on this record, it wasn't a James solo lyrical affair this time.

Lastly, if you won't be ordering it, goodbye. Thanks for posting now get the fuck out with your repetitive, cliched, majority-following ass. No offense of course.

heyya slame, did you ever think that maybe its not cliched and repetitive? did you ever think that maybe we all just feel this way? its not like i'm going "oh, metallica is fucking shit" to be cool, no, i think its shit. And this would be just another record if it wasn't for metallica. But whatever, i guess you don't promote free speech, so i'll just wait till June 10th to hear how much you hate it.

He's heard the new clips, and I'm pretty damn sure he's not gonna hate it. In fact, slayme has been the most supportive of metallica's new material on the boards.

Honesty can be cliched and repetitive, ya dumb fuck. Dont you know what words mean? If you dont, please dont use them. slayme didnt accuse you of saying anything because you wanted to be cool, he just informed you that you're not 'the only guy who doesnt dig the new shit,' that you're, in fact, in good company. That's not an insult unless you wanted to be alone in it. Then he chastised you for repeating what one can see anywhere on the web where these clips are being discussed, and what, in fact, you can read dozens of times in this thread. The only problem is that you dont add anything. Not everyone's opinion is worth hearing if many of them are the same. Notice how we dont have a thread asking everybody to weigh in on the Justin Timberlake. Do you know why? It'd get boring; everyone would say the same thing.

The fact is, whether or not you honestly believe it, you're repeating what's been said millions of times since any clips from this album have started surfacing. It's entirely unnecessary to say what someone else has already said, especially as that 'someone else' has almost certainly said it more persuasively and more eloquently. If we really wanted to hear every asinine opinions, slayme wouldnt have started this thread as he did. Dont be a cunt here just because you are everywhere else; here you have an opportunity to come off otherwise.

For those are you that are skeptical, curious, or just plain bored, tomorrow 11 websites will be hosting all 11 tracks from the St. Anger DVD PORTION in streaming format. These aren't the studio tracks, this is from the DVD live that's packaged with the CD.

Metallica.com has made it into a scavenger hunt of sorts, only giving clues to what websites, but most of the clues are fairly easy. Here they are:

Site 1:
- This company is the MVP of Maddeningly great sports video games

Site 2:
- Your Gates-way to the hottest new music and music news

Site 3:
- Where new music blasts off

Site 4:
- The sumo wrestler of websites

Site 5:
- Where music, movies, technology, contests and more are synthesized into something net. Oops, we mean something new.

Site 6:
- Highly toxic radio south of the border

Sire 7:
- Germanic Icon makers

Site 8:
- Same as the U.S. video game site, but Down Under

Site 9:
- Le ringtones et Le logos

Site 10:
- This magazine/site name rhymes with twang

Site 11:
- "." music

I'm not gonna be checking out the streams, I think we're too close to the date and no more spoilage for me but this is what I got so far.

1. EA Sports www.ea.com
2. Windowsmedia.com
3. Launch.com
4. Heavy.com
5. Synthesis.net
6.
7. MTV Germany
8. EA Australia

I'm sure some of you have heard the rumors of St. Anger coming out 5 days early on the 5th and not the 10th, well, it's official. Fuckin A!

NEW RELEASE DATE FOR ST. ANGER | 06/02/2003 << GO BACK

Can't wait 8 more days till the release of St. Anger? Well neither can we!! The NEW St. Anger day is now 5 days early, Thursday June 5th, worldwide!! (Japan on June 6th) That's all you really wanted to know right? Good!! Here is the official press release (snooze fest) below:

METALLICA TO RELEASE MUCH ANTICIPATED ST. ANGER FIVE DAYS EARLY

New York, NY - Due to the unprecedented level of anticipation and the prevalence of sub-standard versions of Metallica's upcoming, St. Anger, already in circulation, Elektra Records has moved up the release date of the new album, from Tuesday, June 10, to Thursday, June 5.

Elektra and Metallica have taken this extraordinary measure to ensure that counterfeit copies of the band's first studio album in six years do not proliferate in the marketplace. Metallica unanimously approved the move, guaranteeing that fans get first crack at hearing the acclaimed disk the way the band intended: Loud and unadulterated.

A spokesperson for Elektra indicates that this is a rare exception to standard release policy for the label, pointing out that demand for the new Metallica album warrants every measure be undertaken to prevent unauthorized leaks of St. Anger. In the past year, superstar artists such as Eminem and 50 Cent have both moved up their respective release dates to stem illegal piracy. Metallica is the first rock band to move up a release to counter the spread of unauthorized copies. According to noted magazine's Spin and Blender, Metallica followers will be ecstatic to hear St. Anger the way the band intended. Says Spin: 'This is the album Metallica lifers have been waiting for: an inspired return to the complex savagery of old.' Blender raves: 'Once again their music is about bringing the carnage...whiplash time shifts and thrash guitar evoke prime Metallica.'

In other overtures to fans, Metallica has conjured up a slew of unique activities and promotions to celebrate the release of their 10th album, St. Anger.

The band has crafted a DVD Treasure Hunt for fans hungry for Metallica performances of new material. The first ever-online music promotion of its kind, the Treasure Hunt coincides with Metallica's recent announcement that they would be including a unique live performance DVD as an added component of the disk. The performance features the group playing all of St. Anger's songs live in 'shitty 5.1 sound.' Metallica's Treasure Hunt will include every track from the DVD, each streamed to a different site - not necessarily affiliated with music - so that fans will have to hunt for the rare performances themselves. Clues to finding the hidden 'treasures' will be made available on Metallica's website, www.Metallica.com. The DVD Treasure Hunt is set to kickoff on June 3.

The legendary group, who were recently named MTV Icons by the music channel with a special all-star tribute show broadcast on May 6, will also be providing a special digital access pass to every one who purchases the St. Anger CD, granting entry into a Metallica vault of unreleased live performances by the band. The promotion, hosted in conjunction with independent broadband provider Speakeasy, provides each record buying user with a unique access number contained in the CD packaging that entitles the purchaser to log on to www.Metallicavault.com, punch in their number and enter a digital vault filled with Metallica live gems.

The group recently offered a rare opportunity for fans to see Metallica play live in an intimate theatre setting in one of rock's most historic venues, San Francisco's famous Fillmore. Lucky members of Metallica's fan club won tickets to the once-in-a-lifetime free concert series, which took place to rave reviews on May 18, 19, 21 and 22. Metallica will kick off their much-anticipated Summer Sanitarium Tour in June, featuring Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Deftones and Mudvayne.

Yahoo.com has also named Metallica Launch Artist Of The Month for June. Yahoo's Artist Of The Month Page is accessed over two million times during the month, and will give Metallica fans an up-close glimpse of the band via unique and comprehensive content, including exclusive interviews, a complete video retrospective, and a rare, live, in-studio performance, among other features.

Metallica also staged an extremely rare performance while making the video for the first clip from their album, the title track from St. Anger. The group performed in front of inmates at San Quentin Prison, all part of an 18 hour shoot for the new clip, directed by the Molloy brothers ( Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters, among others) and featuring the band in all their hellacious glory. Among the songs the band performed for the inmates were 'For Whom The Bell tolls,' 'Fade To Black,' and 'One.'

It's "flush it out" and shut the fuck up.

Well, since the record comes out tomorrow, I figured I'd go back over what Bones98 has given to this excellent thread.

1. "Download the mp3's then go buy, I don't think you wanna take the chance of paying
14-22 dollars for a cd that is crap!!!!!!"

2. LARS ULRICH

3. "....My friend who's name is Josep loves Metallica, but somehow this time
he will not buy the new album because he thinks its gonna rip him off just like all the
other albums after load."

4. "Is there songs out on Kazaa?"

5. "Oh...ok.....But will they be releasing some MP3's?"

6. "I watched the video called "The Four Horsemen" from the
web page, and they wre playing Battery, it was all good until
James started singing, they should get Jason back and make
him growl to the entire song...Then maybe, metallica would
sound more metal....

7. "I wonder how cool it would be to have Metallica as
a Death Metal band" "

8. "The album covers look fuckin Brutal, I hope this new release of
Metallica is worth the money. Please someone keep me informed
whether the cd is good or merely ok."

9. "Exactly, thats what I do, I always d/l music first from the internet,
then ask about people's opinions, then if all averages out well, then I'll
buy the cd."

10. "I hate the part when james says "Push it out" in the St.Anger song"

And THAT's Bones98's contribution, folks. Let's all give him a pat on the back for being such an incoherent ball of sweaty hobo sack-cheese.

haha

I just watched the DVD with the practise sessions, cool stuff, hehe Trulijo has a spooky way of moving around the room.

the CD is better then I expected, seriously theres some really neat songs on it, though I didn't listen to it enough to tell you much about it.

I allready like it more then the 'loads' it definetly got more brutal, in terms of the older shit, I'de say, it's definetly metallica time again.

Can't wait to see them live now, this stuff kick ass!

Heh, definetly,

man I'm getting into this cd, I'm liking it more and more, some songs have a really brutal vibe to them, sweet shit man, some stuff sounds like its back to the trash days

I liked the way they produced it too, not TOO smoothe, all together it sounds pretty raw, which is good for the overall sound of the album, it's not 'rock' this time, it's metal, for sure.

enjoy!

Just got the cd around 10:30 this morning at best buy. I really like it, I'm glad I didn't download it and ruin my surprise. My favorite tracks are my world and sweet amber.
