No, he talks about that in Food of the Gods, which is probably my favorite (non-fiction) out of all the books I've read. He definitely has some sweet theories, and ideas regarding the future state of things.

revival.

I'm reading Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinland. Tis Science Fiction, but not the over the top nerdy kind. I've read Dune as well and am looking for more good science fiction without there being over the top gay shit (like star wars/star trek books. fuck that).

Also, comical books would be appreciated.... think Jim Goad or Tucker Max. Thanks in advance.

I wonder how many people said "porn" lol...I was too lazy to check.

Hmm, as far as recreational reading goes...

-Edgar Allan Poe
-H.P. Lovecraft
-Bass Player magazine
-Morbid Curiosity magazine
-Anything to do with Norse fact & mythology, (and vikings of course!)
-Music Theory

...That's about it. I'll read random shit when I'm extremely bored, but nothing that comes to mind at the moment.

just received my copy of an out of print book called "the tarantula" by w.j. baerg. its basically a much more advanced version of those "guide to keeping a tarantula" books. more detail on biology and behavior etc. not very many pictures at all..just information. haven't started reading it yet because i'm still in the middle of reading one of the best spider books i know off..."the biology of spiders" by rainer foelix. its a tough read though...i'll definitely be reading it again so that everything sinks in.

(finally) started on Houllebecq. The opening 'scene' is fantastic, an unemotional, very precise and accurate description of a 'happy retirement'-party, at which the people visiting the party àre only visiting the party because they're invited.

You should know the feeling, you're going out with some people or something, and you feel (and even worse: you know the others feel it aswell) that it really is sub-par to your expectations. Brilliant.

I've read that book a few years ago. It was very good indeed. I finally saw his second novel the other day at a local bookstore.

We've been reading Lord Of The Flies by William Golding in English class. It's really good. His style is so frigging articulate and the book has some great insight on the true nature of humanity.

If "you peoples'" means "Me"...then you are welcome.

I also recommended it yesterday to my friend, who said I had to pick a novel from his collection(he's an english major..) if he does indeed borrow my copy. I'll probably go with Slaughterhouse Five, one of those classics I've been meaning to read for years now.

I hate reading novels for some reason but i love short stories such as Poes....believe i mentioned this before, i guess i begin to loose interest because i have a bad habit of putting novels down for awhile when i begin them.

I'm pretty sure more people than you recommended it. If it had just been you I'd probably have made some gay joke.

Reading The Aristos. Spent a day a while back reading some PK Dick stories, which is always fun. Wish I had time for a novel for myself.

i'm currently reading an out of print book called the tarantula by william j. baerg. i guess he was one of the first americans to seriously study tarantulas and compile a book with the most "up to date" information. reading it now...just about 50 years later, i can recognize info that has since been updated, but its a great read as it is. with the limited funding in the area of study...its no surprise that tarantula taxonomy is such a mess and scientific names have changed a lot. it wasn't just that though...a few of his observations (he did note that at times they were limited observations) are in obvious contrast with what is now considered common knowledge of these little "furry" bastards. (insert nerd smiley face here)

It would be best if you didn't read the Wikipedia page first, but honestly the 'surprises' in the book aren't plot-based; or, if they are, it's only because the plot situates the situation. So I'd recommend reading it.

After The Three Stigmata, I read the following Philip K. Dick, at about the rate of one per day (this is not much of an accomplishment):

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said
UBIK
The Man in the High Castle
VALIS
The Divine Invasion

All poorly written. All great nevertheless. He really does belong in a class with Pynchon, Borges, Kafka, Calvino, and them, even though he's not as polished as any of the others.

Also read Ask the Dust, which is something like a polished Bukowski and so much rawer and better than the film, which was just a love story using some of the book's characters, that everybody involved in the film should be ashamed. Seriously. And am now midway through The Deptford Trilogy. Fifth Business was quite good, and with about 100 pages left of The Manticore it's promising to be similarly good. Doubt I'll have much of a chance to read over the coming week or so, but it's real good to have had the opportunity so far. Once I'm done with this, all my languishing big novels are getting their chance.

The alien abduction ones?

I love alien abduction books, haven't read one in a while. Strieber is the best, even tho I don't believe any of it in the slightest.

edit: for some reason I'm reading Hamlet.....real slow. Someone gave me a few of Shakespeare's plays in novel form. It's incredibly hard for me to understand and sometimes I feel ripped off when I figure out whats being said in about half a page is something pretty basic.

I been getting more into reading books that really capture the language used at the time of when the novel takes place(Victorian English, cowboy slang, New England Quaker-speak from Moby Dick, etc) or had been written at the time in such a manner of speech with old school vocabulary/slang. Shakespeare is even a little too much, it's obviously very ornamental and poetic and not accurate to the English used at the time, but I still like the yoda-speak, backwards sentences and the slang words that I don't think anyone really fully understands.

beyond that I haven't been reading much.

Just finished "Die Trying" by Lee Child, and I just started another book by him called "The Enemy." Great suspense author. I'm not big on reading, but I get hooked reading these.

Just finished Requiem for a Dream. Well written book...I'm sure many of you have seen the movie.

Next, I'm going to reread "the doors of perception" by Aldus Huxley.

I loved that movie, probably my favorite movie. Wasn't even aware of the book, I've got to read it after Beowulf.

Ended up deleting them because my printer isn't good enough and it is way to slow to print out a whole book. So I'm just going to borrow Moonchild from a friend.

The next book I buy will be Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time". I'm an extremely prolific reader and I've read many things mentioned on this thread. Bukowski is awesome.

Just read Middlesex, which I'd been meaning to get to for around a year now. Great fucking book, way better than I originally expected given the premise, and still living up to the expectations I had when I learned a little more about Eugenides as a writer.

And now I'm a little past halfway through The Prestige, which is basically a cool idea waiting to be re-worked into a movie by Christopher Nolan. There's all sorts of cool stuff to it, but the author's not up to executing it any way other than clumsily.

I didn't know 'The Prestige' was a book. I will have to look for that one. I liked the movie.

There is probably nothing at a library about Crowley that you can't find on the internet blitz906.

The Prestige the book is nowhere near as good as the film. It's got more stuff in it, but Nolan's a much better writer than Priest.

Thinking about reading the Canterbury Tales.

Reading Dean Koontz's Life Expectancy at this moment. Started off very peculiar. It's the first of his books that I've engaged in reading and I'm content with it now(only to page 47).

Pet Sematary was awesome. Only bad thing was the ending, way to ambiguous. :/

I just found my old copy of Bukowski's "Tales of Ordinary Madness". Too bad a shitload of the pages are stuck together from water damage, but I still have a pretty good amount of the book sill readable.

Mikhail Lermontov, Hero of our time. Translated to English.

19th century Russian romanticism, not my usual thing but I'm trying to read actual literature for a change.

Interesting note, Lermontov died in a duel..........This was back in the day when this sort of thing was pretty popular. It's not like what you would typically see in films tho.........the shooters would go one at a time and I believe they were using matchlock pistols at this time.......not revolvers, no Mexican stand-offs at high noon.

Good book.

Josef Conrad, Heart of Darkness.

I bought this today, the owner of the bookstore asked if I had seen Apocalypse Now, I told him about the Herzog film "Aguirre" ..........both are inspired by this book.

So what I've been doing is going thru this high school/college book "Literature of the western world" and picking out some authors who are featured. It's working out pretty good for getting into different stuff, the kind of books I wouldn't usually go for.

In the past 3 weeks, I've read three 300+ page novels, all by Bernard Cornwell. I highly recommend reading the Saxon Series.

The Last Kingdom
The Pale Horseman
Lords of the North

And a 4th one is on it's way. This shit fuckin slays.
