I could understand that you like the music, but the message in the music just isn't me.
I read the lyrics, but it's just NOT my kinda stuff.. especially the older albums, and I did relate slayer to satanism, but that kinda logical from my point of view don't you think?

I don't think he was talking to you def.....your previous post made enough sense that it was YOUR OPINION and that you didn't mind if anyone else liked it.......but the other dude was just downright rude and ignorant.

Nah, it was partially in response to him.
Dude, I said Slayer's old stuff was sorta satanistic. It's just, did you check anything they did since 1990? Cause, after that, there's pretty much one satan song on there and the rest isnt. Calling them anti-Christian, is, in my opinion, sorta ignorant. Like I said, there are actual anti-Christian bands out there. Go bug them, they like it. I put Deicide out there, go check them out for a start. They damn sure never stopped to write a song about a serial killer, the ridiculousness of modern laws against violence, nazis, or a sport popular outside the US. Nope, just satanism for them. Of course, then I wont be able to have this interesting and stimulating conversation where we just repeat ourselves endlessly, and I'd definitely really miss this.
By the way, just cause Scott Ian calls himself the DevilJew doesnt mean he's really into satanism, sometimes, people arent always "serious".

right, it's funny to be satanist.. sure..
anyways, christians obviously still don't like slayer.. they just look at their signature guitar models and see pentagrams and say ah fuck the're satanist. I'm not short-sighted or anything, but they are still kinda fucking around with it. not as much as the old days, no, but they aren't a spirit-filled metalband or something..
anyways, end of fucking subject, like some moderator posted before, religion stuff makes problems here. so I'll stop my bitching, you do the same, okay.

I don't want to strike up big conversations here, but i still think Slayer is doing the anti-christian thing. "God Hates Us All" kind of says it. Also, one of my favorite songs off Diabolus has the chorus screaming "Antichrist is the name of god". I think that feel is still in their blood......but they probably like writting about other stuff now too, not just God bashing.
And to Def-fx....not everyone has as strong beliefs in religion that you do. From what you said, i take it you think that "Deviljew" isn't funny.......but i think it is. I'm christian and i'm calling myself "The Devil". It just all depends on personal beliefs....some have such strong ones that they don't want to even joke about satan and such, others don't mind joking about that stuff cause they see no harm in it (like myself).

Several of the band members have said numerous times that they don't believe in God or Satan. So, now what do you think "God Hates Us All" means.
It means they don't give a fuck.

Uh, yeah, that song you mentioned, memnoch, is also the only one that's remotely satanic. I could just as easily point out that
Death's pointed at your head
Your mind's on the trigger, pull it
Bludgeon bodies give up
Their muted horror story
Scene of your rage
Death is not strange
Blood on the walls
You stand alone satisfied
or
Here in 1994
Things are different than before
Violence is what we adore
Anyone can be set free
On a technicality
Explain the law again to me
Has precisely NOTHING to do with satan. Well, unless you believe anything dark or evil is satanic, in which case they do. They're not satanic, and a pentagram aint gonna make them it. You dont call Morbid Angel satanic, do you? But they have the fuckin pentagram, too.
Final time, go check out Deicide if it's satanism you wanna bitch about. I'm sure the picture of a dissected Christ would give you plenty to talk about.
Oh, and most of what I just said was not meant to be directed at memnoch, as is obvious from the context but not from the fact that I adressed him. I do not believe I have to convince a guy whose favorite band has a song called 'No Jesus, No Beast' about the nature of satanism in metal, ok? Plus, he likes Slayer.

Usually anti-god bands mean anti-christian-god bands.
You don't often here "NO SHIVA! NO BEAST" or something.

i dont think there is really such thing of a best metal, or best any band, really. i just read this entire thread and there were alot of great bands and to each ones own they are all the greatest metal bands. but hey, to hell with philosophical views, i'll just go along with it and the best metal band would ofcourse, without a doubt be my favourite band, because obviously, they have to be the best if they are my favourite, my favourite band isn't gonna be a 2nd rate band now is it?
(i have 3 tiers of favourites)
Opeth <-ultimate
morbid angel, cradle of filth <- top favourites
nile, psycroptic, frankenbok, destroyer666, devolved, omnium gatherum, astriaal, bal-sagoth, deicide, amon amarth <- favourites
then just a shit load of other bands, like napalm death, carcass, slayer, arch enemy, psi-kore, and so on.
my order of 'best' bands

yeah, I think you're completely right there. and I agree with the "god hates us all" that stuff isn't just funny or something to christians.. but like you said, everybody takes his beliefs serious in a diffrent kinda way. I'm not an extreme case here in this country and some even push it too far. I won't talk about that now cuz that shite is even more boring than this conversation about religion.
if you listen to slayer, no problem with me, but I don't care about that band, but seriously I couldn't care less if you was walking around with a big pentagram on your forehead and shit, it's your business, not mine.

I dont care what you people think about me. I never knew I wasnt allowed to voice my opinion here, but Im not going to kiss your guys ass and pretend to like Slayer. I didnt like their past 4 albums. I thought they were awful. But thats my opinion. Does that mean anyone should think less of them? No, it's my opinion. Just like you may not like Tool or Megadeth, Im not going to jump all over you guys because they are my favorite bands. I always thought you should be able to like what you want, but whatever. And Dante's Inferno is in my location because instrumentally its one of the best metal songs I have ever heard. So your useless knowledge about what the lyrics mean were totally unnecessary. And no, I wasn't trying to be "cool." If you were in any other music boards I am on you would see I always use a song title in my location.

man, we are all free here to talk about our opinions, as long if you don't stick you opinions on other people. in this thread I've made my opinion quite clear, and actually some people even took the time to read it and reply to it, that's good.
so don't go about saying you can't have your own opinion here.

That'd be cause you called everyone immature for listening to Slayer bro. Noone likes to be insulted, as you quickly found out.
And when, exactly, did I mention anything the lyrics to Dante's Inferno? I was more making fun of you than tryin to show insight into the song or the epic, I'm sorry if you misunderstood.

Yeah, I think everybody should respect each others opinions, you don't have to agree but at least respect somebody's opinion and don't just go against it with stupid gibberish.
About the insult thing, PST88 is right there, nobody like to be insulted, but I think everybody has the right to form their own opinion here, and actually I think it works pretty well, look at all the guys here, all from diffrent countries, like diffrent bands etc.. and we're all on one board, if there wouldn't be any respect for individuals here it would be a total mess!!

pfff, satanic bands are RARE in metal. I haven't seen a single one mentioned in this thread.

I've been christian since birth......i believe in some things christian, but i don't really consider myself a huge "follower" of the faith. I haven't regularly been to communion in about 10 years, and i haven't even gone for x-mas in about 3 years.
