Master of Puppets re-recorded by todays 'top talent'
http://s53.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=...N11WQ8OX969EYI9
Given away free by that shite mag Kerrang!
You should find this entertaining, the full album redone by Machine Head, Trivium, Mastadon, some twat who was in Busted, plus others!!!!!
Funeral For a Friend really show up their lack of fret board prowess!

Yeah, Funeral for a Friend have no place doing that.
Bullet for My Valentine are on it too, if I remember right.

Not that I don't enjoy free speach and all, but do explain why they are "fags."

So he wears clothing you don't like. What a sad excuse.
You don't like his singing, thats fine.
To say they flat out "suck" implies they have no talent.
Which is not true.
I respect your opinion about not liking them, but I do believe this forum needs some fucking TACT when speaking about bands. Unless they flat out couldn't play their instruments to save their lives, to say a band flat out sucks is moronic.

At least Metallica didn't try re-recording it.
I think the newer shit should be re-recorded by respectable metal bands. I like playing the slower stuff (Black album, for example) really fast and adding in a few more notes and little wicked tricks. MOP is one of their best albums. I think their lesser work should be considered for reconstruction. Still, sounds interesting. I'll probably give it a listen at least.

well then, i dislike there "music"...i wasnt implying that they couldnt play there instruments...im just saying they dont make good music, im sure they have plenty of talent...but if i was talking to my friend or just anyone in particular about this band, what i would normally say about a band that i find as bad as this is "wow these guys suck"...take it or leave it...that's what i think...and im sticking to it...

Metallica is gay so I will not even bother listening to that in the first place. That band gets way to much praise. Even at the begining it's sub-par thrash at it's best. <--- this should be Kirk Hammett. flame me all you like. I've heard it all, "There would be no metal if there wasn't metallica, they pioneered it" is one thing I don't want to see. Their first demo was 1982 while Iron Maiden released "Iron Maiden" in 1980 and formed in 1975 correct me if I'm wrong, is that not before Metallica? Venom started in 1978 for fuck's sakes, and that band Insipired some of the greatest bands out there. So that is one thing I don't wanna hear. It pisses me right off that metallica get the respect that they do. They're a no-talent band, and yes I have heard their music, and I stick strong to thaat statement. Hell even Vlad Tepes are better musicians, well not really, but atleast they can make a good song.

Of course Metallica is over-rated. But some of their stuff is pretty impressive. And though they certainly didn't invent metal, they've influenced a whole lot of bands since their days of higher popularity. Kind of like Slayer. They didn't invent thrash, but they definitely influenced and changed it in their own way. Imagine what metal would be like if Metallica never existed. If you take away any link in a chain of events, things will be very different. So yeah, they aren't the gods that some people think they are, but I do think they deserve some of the respect and credit that they have.
....Wait a minute. Did I just contribute to the distraction of this thread and it's plunge into a cliche Metallica bashing/defending bitchfest? Dear goodness I hope not. Oh well.
EDIT: And yeah, Kirk is a tad bit annoying on a superficial level. Watch the Cunning Stunts DVD. That's the faggiest look EVER for him. Regardless, it's his musicianship that counts, and he's pretty good at what he does.

No one claims that Metallica "invented" the metal scene. They helped commercialize it into something that is accepted as music. Thrash would've happened with or without them, but most people wouldn't have known about it if not for Metallica.
I consider Metallica one of those "gateway" metal bands. Kind of like the stereotype about pot; if you aren't into drugs, pot may be your stepping stone to other things. But finishing the analogy: If you aren't into metal, Metallica is one of those band that can open up alot of other bands for you. From thrash, to somewhat progressive, and just plain "metal." All of those will lead to other bands, and so on.
Point being, without Metallica, metal would not have been commercialized to the point it has been, and we'd still be stuck with hair bands. No, really though, without them, we wouldn't be where we are.
So give credit and respect where its due, thats all I ask.

I like that the guy pointing out how idiotic it would be to claim Metallica invented metal in 1983 makes no mention of Black Sabbath and their formation in '68. That's the kind of stupidity you can expect from somebody who thinks that Metallica was always sub-par.
Now, shut the fuck up about Metallica and get to calling the bands who covered their songs for this names.
Oh, and the guy claiming that Trivium are fags is just stating his dislike for them. It's a dumb way to phrase it and if you'd done it in less of a histrionic way I'd be on your side for pointing that out, but really, learn to say what you mean without whining, Dissy. Just call him a nephew-raping yokel and be done with it.

I just listened to this album, the only track I really liked was the trivium one. They did do a good job with master of puppets, I guess chimairas wasnt too bad either.

Hurray! Finally someone who actually took the time to download and listen to the album which was the whole point of this thread
And here's me thinking I posted this link to hear about how Trivium's clothes suck and how Kirk should be decapitated because his band was more popular than three geordies who formed in the late 70's

Metallica and the others from the thrash movement saved us from the girly hair rock invasion that was the 1980's. I'm guessing you weren't there in the 80's so you won't fully understand the salvation it was and how important an album it was!
All what follows is inspired by what came before, without Sabbath and Zep, Tull, Deep Purple, Scorpions, Motorhead, Priest, Maiden, punk etc there wouldn't have been Venom and Venom were also a very big influence on early Metallica, (hence Metallica stole lorry loads of riffs, so I guess now you'll hate Venom for spawning Metallica?)) And without Metallica you wouldn't have the same extreme music scene you enjoy today. Regardless of whether you hate the band or not their influence and promotion of metal cannot be denied. Saying that, I'm fully aware of the contribution any of the above mentioned acts have given the metal world, all have been just as important.

I thought most of these covers were good actually, only ones I didn't like were the
bullet for my valentine (annoying vocals),
fightstar (annoying vocals)
Funeral for a friend (bad vocals, sloppy in places)
Apart from that, its a pretty good CD.
It's not that the musicians in these 'new talent' bands are crap, ok I would be suprised if they could cover some spawn of possession, but they're not shit at playing, they just can't write decent songs of their own.
And alot of them have rubbish vocalists.

I am pissed. some of these bands have great musicians, but they will never be able to play to the best of their ability. Because they are in crap bands. How can a person allow themself to waste all of their talent that they praticed so hard for?
I think they should have left the album alone. it was fine the way it was. Metallica couldn't have done a better job themselves ( seriously they couldn't have..ever).
Triviums volcals were the only half decent ones. See Capharnaum

Yeah it would've been better if you had Akercocke, Opeth, Cannibal Corpse + your other favourite bands doing the songs.
And yes these 3 bands are in your favourites list.

Matt Heafy is bi-sexual: He's arse-thumpingly gay in trivium yet straight as a die in Capharnaum.

I listened. Quite frankly, I am dissapointed on how sloppily these bands play really simple songs. And hell they should have gotten metal bands to cover Metallica songs

The master of puppets cover by trivium was terrible. I've heard one of triviums songs and I thought it was decent....but that sucked!!!
Same for chimaira too....they used to be cool in my book...
come on....if you can't get a decent tone for a metallica cover....something is just wrong.

lmao
youre now one of my favourite posters.
Im gonna listen to this as soon as Rhapsody have finished (just prepping myself for the cheese). I used to love MoP, still regard it as quality, hopefully this doesnt piss all over it, though Im sure it will.
There really ought to be a Death Metal version of this. Like, gutterals, blast beats, crazy solos... Would be interesting.

A. Metallica is good: Ride the Lighting
Fight fire with fire
For whom teh bell tolls
MoP
Battery
The four horsemen
Hit the lights
seek and destroy
Creeping Death
Call of Ktulu
B. why did you say mastodon is a sell-out band? I really like their sea-worthey metal

Mastadon are alright but I didn't like how they handled that cover.
A better tracklist IMO would be
Funerot-Battery
Necrophagist-Master Of Puppets
Nile-The Thing That Should Not Be
Opeth-Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Dying Fetus-Disposable Heroes
Cryptopsy-Leper Messiah
I don't know who would do Orion
Exhumed-Damage Inc.
To tell you the truth I am not a big Metallica fan. I don't really like Master Of Puppets. I prefer Kill 'Em All or Ride The Lightning.

I guess Mortician could do a cover of old Metallica. That, or some fat guy could belch into a megaphone and throw rocks at a guitar. It would probably sound the same. On a more serious note, a cover album of Metallica's best by Slayer would kick ass.

master of puppets has like 1.5 good songs...Battery and half of Master of Puppets cuz once it hits the acoustic part it is lame...
The problem with Metallica songs is they never know when to wrap it up. They just keep going and going and going and going it gets old. Good example, would be The Four Horsemen, they hit that interlude so they switch it up from Mustaine's and the song loses its momentum. Still a good song, lyrics are a shitload better, but its to drawn out.
Kill 'em All is the only okay metallica album.

This wasn't half as bad as I expected it to be, but I still don't like Metallica's songs, even when they played them themselves.

If I never see another Metallica thread ever again, I will be very happy.
Not interested.

I agree with that completely.
Trivium was the only band that did worth a shit on this.
