 .
I'm considering it for my 7-strings.
The M6 and M8 were only recently developed because Ibanez nicked Nevborn's Sleipner 8-string design and 6-string players wanted one for themselves.
Is the 81-7 really just another name for the 707?!

no, the 81-7 is a 7 string version of the 81... the 707 is a 7 string pickup cased off of the 85... which would explain why everyone complains about muddyness in 707's as bridge pickups.

I assumed I'd have to replace the stock pickups in my Ibanez RG 1527, but I was wrong. They rock.
I was going to go for a Dimarzio Evolution if that helps.
I always thought the X2N was kinda harsh and cutting, but maybe it would sound far more balanced on a 7 string model.

You are right on man, the evo is where its at, i have it in my 7's bridge pos. and it is tight as fuck, i play tech death, similar to spawn of possession mixed with a bit of trey azagoth style guitar work, and i have a very clear sound, the notes are really defined and whatnot, if your going for clarity, and atmosphere, go for the evo, works great for the technical-brutal shit btw

Thats what im afraid of, I had evo's in a Ibanez Jem 555 before, i didnt like them, I dont know if it be that much different for the 7string, I know the pickup has some differences. I gotta find a pickup id like in basswood, i think ill try the Duncan Distortion7, its what i had originally planned and you never hear anything about it, ill review back here after I swap them, should be this weekend.

Really, you didnt like evo's in a Jem?Then I would say dont get them for your 7.I thought evo's sounded as good as they got in Jems.Thats personal preference for you.
