besides, we can't really suggest what you should buy, you have to go out and try them. check the threads i posted above for some pricing suggestions and then go out and try them.

i'll post them again to make it easy for you to find...

You could get an alright (active pickups) Ibanez 5 string for 700, or a decent Yamaha, or a Second hand warwick Corvette 4 string.. (passive, maybe active if you find a good deal) also look along the lines of Shecter and Modulus, and also Ernie ball Musicman..

Good luck.

No one can tell you what bass to buy but $700 can buy a lot of bass. Think about what pickup config you want - P, P&J (my favorite), JJ, Soapbar - it's especially important if you fingerpick.
Also, get something you can live with. I bought a used 80's Hamer explorer bass with a Kahler tremolo on it (it was useless) in the early 90's. It played and sounded great but it really burned me when I saw an old KROKUS video and the guy had my fucking bass! My point being, stay away from the trendy shit especially if you are spending $700.

Nothing wrong with a nice black Fender jazz bass in my opinion. Classic, mean plus it's a bolt on so if the neck goes you can replace it. I have a warmoth jazz neck on a warmoth explorer body and it's the best neck in the world. I've had it for 13 years and it is rock solid. Gibsons tend to have faster necks but are pricey. BC rich's are shit unles they are handmade. I have an "80 mockingbird bass that plays like a dream but it still isn't for everday use.

I'd say stick with Fender - it'll build up muscle (unlike say an Ibanez would) and you can always sell it if you change tastes.

I'm confused. How will a Fender build up more muscle than an Ibanez?
Explin this please.
