well i dunno whether i should get a 4 string or a five string basically, and i like playing fast riffs..solos..melodic...stuiff...etc...

get a sixer dude, if you can do your solos decently then you should be able to handle a six, its gives you more options and more versatality, if its outa ur price range go for a 5. i got a 5 right now but i wish i had more. when you get to a certain point you always want more.

yeah, but if you are planning to get a six, consider the choice.. I don't know, six-es are nice but the necks are to fucking big.
I've got huge hands so for me it's not a BIG problem but still, it plays shitty in the beginning. and there aren't a lot of nice 6 strings on the market if you ask me.
if you go 5 string, the jump from 4 string isn't that big, you'll get used to it fast and the bottom end is really nice, however there are LOTS of nice 5 strings on the market nowadays.....
for 4 strings, well you know, fast stuff, but I prefer a 5 string, it's just a matter of what you're used to. sometimes I grab my 4 string to do some stuff but I always end up grabbing the 5 string after a couple of minutes.....

the low range is nice, (the B) but I don't know about the high C (?) on those 6 strings, isn't that like, uhm, stupid, your playing bass, not half-guitar-like crap, right?

It's just not my thing. but you've got to find out for yourself, go to store's, try stuff, if they won't let you try stuff, break their necks and don't go back to that store, service is everything.

Yes, but that kinda depends on the amount of money you want to invest on a decent bass...
and your style is also important when you choose a bass.....

If you like a trebelish funky sound you should buy a musicman stingray, If you're into metal, and you like a lot of bottom end, buy an ESP/LTD B-205 with Emg's...either that or a good Ibanez..
for bass, I think Ibanez has a lot to offer, but not in the cheap range, the prestige range is really nice, and the BTB range is also okay.
Warwick also makes nice basses, but I don't like the sound and body shape but that's just a matter of taste.
Ibanez basses sound really clear/clean with a lot of low end on the 5 strings, musicman stingrays sound rather filty and have the "dirty" bass sound, same goes for rickenbakers...

it's all a matter of how much money you want to spend on your instrument and what you want for yourself, and finally, testing the bass you think is right for you...
if it's not up to your expectations, don't buy it... continue the search.

you won't be able to a nice ibanez for these ammounts, I'm sorry, for a good 5-er you'll have to spend about 800euro's, and that's not even a perfect one, for the cheapest ibanez 5-er, it's a Ibanez 305 DX JB it's 299 Pound ..
or maybe try a Cort, ever heard of that brand?
I have a 4 string Cort and for the money it is well okay, the designs are from overdue ibanez types, but you pay less money (for the same quality) see www.cort.com

i like the warlock, by b.c. rich..????, i think it's bc rich, someone correct me if i'm wrong, but if you're looking for a 5-er, then i dunno, but if you want a good sounding 4 string bass, that looks completely badass, then get a (bc rich????) warlock

I've played on a warlock bass and I hated it, the sound is pretty crappy... but if you put EMG's in it, it would be nicer.

Yeah I like Ibanez and Cort body shapes (the same...) I mostly like the sleek designs but some oldskool models are okay too, like the musicman stingray and the rickenbakers...

I wouldn't want a "badass" looking bass with flames on it or something.. I'de rather have a oakwood stingray that's build like a tank so I can knock somebody out with it if I ever need to..

I got a Vintage active bass, which was alright.. then i won a Ernieball Custom SUB 5 string.. and then i bought a bass im finally happy with a Warwick Thumb bass 4 string.
