First, give a us a price range. Second, don't use a guitar amp. It just isn't worth the risk of blowing it and not having any amp.

It depends how big the guitar amp is, and what you class as low volume.. but its usually not a good idea.

Just get a 20-25 watt practice bass amp, they are usually affordable, it doesent have to be amazing.

Yamaha and ibanez have some good beginners basses, that go for low prices, but again, state the price range your looking for..

I dont want to spend more than 400$ (beside amp) and it won't be my primary instrument (which is guitar)

And for the amp Would a Roland Cube Bass suffice?

If it isn't a primary instrument pick up something simple like a ibanez or squier starting pack. Save money.

If you live in Vancouver there is a store called Tom Lee's on Granville street. They sell guitars real cheap. I got mine for CAN$150, same with the amp. It's a good store, I highly recommend it.

Ha, well, actualy, the starter pack amp is WAY too low volume to play with a drummer. My bass starter kit (Hartke brand lol) was 15 watts. woo hoo. It may sound loud at home when youre just sitting there practicing, but when you're playing with a drummer, you wont hear the bass at all. My band was practicing (1 guitarist/maybe 20 watt amp, bassist/60 watt amp, dummer loud ass tama kit) and i couldn't hear myself enough (im the bassist). Guitar amps are loud as you should know. Id say that if you plan to play with a drummer and not a guitarist, i think 100 watts would be fine but dont quote me on that because my band hasnt practiced for a long time so i dont clearly remember much. higher wattage, however, will bring up the price quite a bit. I got my 60-watt ibanez amp for $250, and i believe that was a deal. If you plan to play with a drummer, you cannot get the starter pack. hope this helps.
