Slowing tempo with Sound Forge
To slow down the tempo in Sound Forge, load an audio file, a mp3 per example. Then go to the 'Process' menu and choose the option called 'Time Stretch'. A window will open where you can configure various options to control the tempo.
That's it! Enjoy it!
Any question or comments, mail me. <maiden_nat@yahoo.com>

I've been trying to figure out how to slow stuff down, thanks naat. One more question: how do you isolate the guitar parts?

Sound Forge
Sorry to answer late, been busy with some stuff... well, I'm not sure if it works, but there are some options in Sound Forge when slowing the tempo where you specify 'Solo Instruments', sometimes the drums sound low and the guitars higher... check these options to have a higher volume of the guitars.
Also, I use that Time Stretch... but there's another option in the menu 'Special', called Edit Tempo... I'm not sure how to use it, maybe you should check that, too... I'm gonna check it...
See ya later.

Another alternative is to download the recording software "AUDACITY" and slow down the songs there. Open any song with audacity and change the bpm it's played at. I used it a while back but unnfortunately i couldn't hear the guitars too well over the vocals. Just tweek the EQ and see if you could make something work hope this helps

The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
And bugles calling for them from sad shires.

Cool Edit pro 2.0 is better for recording but for slowing stuff down and that audacity is way better it's not so difficult.
And i know before i said i never did cheat but now i do. But only on bit's which are really fast.

I listen to full speed for tabbing.
First i listen to a riff to get the main structure.
Then i take apart that riff note by note.
That means i listen to the first note and stop the player.
I search that note on my guitar and write it down.
Then i go forward with the next notes etc etc...
Most problems of course are the palm muted shit.
If you have some palm muted notes in between it's hard
to hear those notes exactly but with some practicising
it works ... mostly hehe.
