Chords From Beyond - Post Your Own
I've suddenly become a jazz freak and I have started to look for the most bizarre chords I can find. I have hundreds that I have learned to quickly shape in songs.
A recent discovery, one of my favourite yet:
A[------]
F[------]
C[0-----]
G[--4---]
D[----6-]
A[------]
You have to arpeggiate this for it to makes sense. It uses a Gypsy tetrachord without its 4th and makes into a chord. Sounds good for ambient Eastern death.
A progression from this could be:
A[------]
F[------]
C[--0---]
G[6-----]
D[----7-]
A[------]
Thoughts?
Post your own if you wish.

Your tuned to A standard? Damn... Well, I'm not too good with my chord analysis. I'd just have to play different chords till something sounded good to me. I'm sure some #4 or b5b7 and sus chords would sound cool.

Come up with some.
Here's a melodic progression-type thingie that I came up with when I was chugging and decided to shift my fingers about a bit while doing so.
A[-------------------------------------------------]
F[-------------------------4-----------4-----------]
C[-------------------2--2--2--------------2--------]
G[2--2--2--2--2--2--0--0--0-----------------0-----]
D[0--0--0--0--3--3--3--3--3--------------------3--]
A[-------------------------------------------------]
PM_____] PM PM
The tuning is A standard on a 7-string guitar, like KoRn or Fear Factory.
When I first got a guitar, I tried B E B E B E but I decided that this is the best, considering I wanted to move upto 7 strings as soon as I felt ready. Thus cometh my lefty Schecter C7 in March.

Dodgy atonal jazz chord
This one has very strange tonalities in it. I think it's incredible.
A[22--]
F[-----]
C[21--]
G[20--]
D[20--]
A[20--]

mixture of an aug and a sus4.
-8---8--- sounds like somone
-6---6--- crying, sort of. to make it sound
-9---9--- a bit more stern turn it
-7---0--- in to a slash like this
-0---0---
--------
they both sound cool. i used them in this project i had to do over the holocaust. Maj b7 is great for irony, diminished is sometimes good for like humorous situation. exp: trumpet laugh

Yeah, I immediatly picked out the notes like that first time I played it, because it's exactly like a Deathspell Omega song I've heard. Can't remember which one though.
Everyone should know DSO's Si Monumentum album anyways.

Otiz...hell yeah!!!! DSO rules. You into Blut Aus Nord as well.
I've notice a lot of BM bands these days use a structure similar to what YJM04 posted. Something like this could be used almost anywhere:
-------
-------
-------
-----5-
---9---
-7-----
Goofing around, you could do:
---------------------------
--------------------5------
----------------------5----
-----7---7-------9---------
---9---9---5---7--------0--
-5-----------0--------------

Otiz, that particular riff or the "technique" in general? Seems a lot of the bands these days, and especially the "orthodox BM" bands are using that styling. Also noticed that Wrest of Leviathan/Lurker of Chalice uses it a lot to create a more ambient feel during some of his slower pieces. My band's been trying to use it as well because of the dissonant feeling it gives, that piece is actually from something we're currently working on. What band are you in Otiz?

I love those chords. It's like a root/5th with a stacked 4th on top. Those give the chord so much thickness. Don't forget the major and minor diad too. They add so much beef to the melodic effect the diad has.
major diad stacked 4th
G--2--
A--3--
E--3--
minor diad stacked 4th
G--1--
A--3--
E--3--

Again, for my lack of training in theory, what would something like this be called?
-------
-------
-------
-----5-
---9---
-7-----
What other types of chords would give a similar feeling? Or even the rather "out of tune" sound of chords like:
------- ------
------- ------
------- ------
------- ---0--
---10-- ---9--
----7-- ---7--
or even:
------
------
------
--12--
---9--
---7--
The latter three work well when tremolo picked. Appreciate the help.

I don't know the names in english. I could maybe tell you in Icelandic though
Anyways, my band's called Stálregn and we sometimes use a style like that. We play very oldschool Immortalish stuff just to have fun with it.
edit: Aw, fuck it.
Just a root+fifth and a 'small' sixth (as I said, dunno all the words for it in english)
-------
-------
-------
-----5-
---9---
-7-----
Same without the fifth and the latter is just a minor chord
------- ------
------- ------
------- ------
------- ---0--
---10-- ---9--
----7-- ---7--
Minor chord again.
------
------
------
--12--
---9--
---7--

Cool, thanks a lot Otiz. I know minors are used a lot and definitely adds to the sound and atmospher of BM. Guess I need to dig a bit deeper into the theory. I'm about as self-taught as one can get (17 years now). I don't know the names for anything, I just know what works.
