What scale/key is this in?
I wrote a cool riff some time ago, but me and my band mates have some trouble writing it into a song because we just can't find what key or scale this is in. It might be atonal/chromatic, but i'm not too sure. Annyway, the riff is played in tremolo picking, but I'll just put in the notes:

My lead guitarist suggested it might be two scales merged, but he can't figure it out either. Any help is appreciated

That can be pretty much anything.
G harmonic minor with a passing tone, and the next riff in a harmonic minor, with a passing tone.

1 st one is: D harmonic minor... the 2 isnt in the scale, but u can still play the D harmonic minor over it, aslong as u make sure u play a note that sound good over the 2, if u play a lead over it that is..
2nd one is: A harmonic minor

They could be Db Diminished and Ab Diminished...
As we know well, Diminished has such a ring in extreme music.

but the diminished scale is also in the harmonic minor scale, and IF hes gonna use it as a backing for leads id use harmonic minor scale instead of diminished.
EDIT:
and they both dont fit in the diminished scale, only some parts, so i think ur better of using harmonic minor

Well, it is the "Harmonic Minor" scale. . . which is just an extension of the natural minor scale in order to have rhythmic chords behind a lead(which would traditionally be written in natural minor). Because the Harmonic is for what it says. . . mostly rhythm stuff. . . so for the scale harmony of the natural minor scale you sharpen the 3rd degree of the V chord and you sharpen the root of the vii chord. . . . but this is in traditionally theory.
