Best combo for $350 and down?

All right, im getting a new amp here for christmas, 350 is the max i can spend. Ive been told by two different friends to go with crate or line 6, and from what I understand both are shit. So.....I need more suggestions, I personally hate crates. Ah, musicaly I play death/black/thrash

I'm pretty sure you've tried the GT line of Crate amps, which are'nt any better than Line 6's Spiders, really. The following is my rundown of all the combos I suggest you look at, and they're mainly on E-bay :

1. Crate Blue Voodoo 2x12/1x12 combo :

These run from about 60 to 100 watts of all tube tone, in either a 1x12 or 2x12 unit. People like them quite a bit, though some say you'll need a boost pedal to get out of it what you need. Try to get the Blue Tolex version if you can ( different circuitry ).

2. Peavey 5150 combo 2x12 combo :

60 watts, all tube, no introduction necessary.

3. Peavey Ultra 2x12 combo :

The predessessor to the Peavey XXX, many consider them both one and the same. Either way, an Ultra sounds pretty damned good.

4. Crate GX130 2x12 combo ( old ) :

For a straight ahead old Cannibal Corpse tone.

5. Peavey Classic 50 2x12 combo :

These are toneful units, but they require a boost pedal. I've recently discovered how great these things sound.

6. Just About Any Carvin 2x12 combo

Go to http://www.carvin.com and have a look at all their combos. You can snag a solid-state 2x12 combo for just at 350$. Don't forget to look at their older stuff on e-bay \

7. Some Obscure Marshall Product

Every now and then someone on E-bay needs to get rid of a Marshall combo in good condition, sometimes you see an old unit with torn tolex and missing knobs ( but in good condition ) selling for a hell of a price.

Or : http://cgi.ebay.com/Marshall-JCM900...1QQcmdZViewItem

Part of the advantage of slapping together some of your own cash for a unit that really cooks!

8. I almost forgot : The XXX combo

Get one of these if you can get 100$ or so of your own money to up your budget a bit. Once again, don't be afraid to take a chance on old-tolex or missing knobs if the unit is in perfect working order, you'll save a load!

9. Peavey Valveking :

I know you must be rolling your eyes at all the Peavey on my list, but trust me on this one. Peavey makes some great stuff! The Valveking is Peavey's answer to all the people who don't have 1,000 in the bank but still want an all-tube product from them that's new. Take it from me, these things do sound good :

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...rch?q=Valveking

Once again, you might have to get some money of your own with it to afford it, unless you can find one second hand --- then you have a great deal. And last :

10. Roll The Dice

Just go to E-bay and search "guitar tube combo" and
see what weird shit you come up with Also try 'tube combo', 'guitar amp', '2x12' combo, '4x10 guitar combo', anything you can dream up.

Good luck!

Any one of you guys looking to get a combo soon should look into this unit. The legendary Ampeg VH head in a combo form --- if you need a cheap combo that does metal, I doubt it gets much better than that. That's actually what I would choose if I were to have a combo.

that ampeg is definitely the best way to go if it stays in your price range.

I liked the crate gt combos. seemed pretty decent.

Several years ... when they first came out they had a big price tag on them. They're in my opinion, the primo of s.s. heads ... although I prefer a rack setup any day.

i prefer the ultra. i have the blue voodoo. its ok. mine is not good. its been completely retubed so i dont know whats wrong with it. ive played another (with blue toloex) and its ok. it gives kinda the hardcore tone IMHO. the best sound i could get out of it is like a underminded tone.
find an ultra.

Wattage in tube combo's is more flexible than in S.S,a 50w tube combo will easily compete with a 100w s.s combo volume-wise.100w tube amps arent always practical unless you gig or regularly jam,as they really need the volume opened up on them to sound their best. What im saying is keep in mind smaller tube combo's,rather then sticking to only 100w.

Saying 50w too, still loud as fuck.Music shops tend to let you try out gear if you show interest in buying them, otherwise if you spend hours playing all their gear and making noise and shit, they will get annoyed.

If you do pay 1500$ for a Mesa tube combo, don't tell us about it, because we will flame you to hell

And yesterday at the practice rooms, I had to listen to this guitarist play a Les Paul through a Peavey Supreme ... it sounded like SHIT.

hehhehe dont worry im not buying it. its too motherfuckingly overpriced and the guy's a dick (owner of the store) so im probably gonna get a peavey 112 valveking combo of the internet and ship it to cyprus from the US. it'll still cost less than 1500 .

I will sell you my Marshall AVT 50 for $400, and I'll ship the bitch for free.

PM me if you want to take me up on that, because that amp means a good deal to me. And before everyone flames it, it is a great amp with an EQ going. Without it, it sucks massive ass.
