hey, i know this thread has probably been vistied a million times, but i need some suggestions, im aiming for a tight brutal death metal sound, (necrophagist, dying fetus, morbid angel, nile, cannibal corpse etc....) ive had my eyes ona shockwave for a while, but is there anything ive missed, ideally id like a 5150 or a marshall tsl2000, but im not rich enough, btw im playing an esp m-200 with an 81 in the bridge........ by budget is about £500 max, any ideas????

not sure how mych they are (especiall in pounds) but the crate blue voodoos seems to be a popular answer around here to start with and theyre pretty cheep too. cannibal uses them (well jack does/did pat uses mesas)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Crate-Blue-Vood...1QQcmdZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.com/CRATE-Blue-Vood...1QQcmdZViewItem
then just get a standerd marshall cab or something

If you can't afford a 5150, I'm not sure what you are gonna buy for less that is going to be real brutal.

You'll need a pedal and a perhaps an eq to get real brutal with the 120 BV. After trying it, I can say that it's good, but not good enough just plugging straight in.

Yep, I would suggest a Blue Voodoo. They go for cheap in the UK - I got mine for around £230.

Just to let you guys know.... Jack Owen used a crate BV 300 head for the Wrenched Spawn recording. That head is very expensive but you can get any sound you want out of it. If you go to musicians friend you will see that its like $ 1800 dollars. That head is brutal.

Could one get a Nile-like tone from this Blue Voodoo? You know, with that those really high treble frequencies in it? Listen to Unas Slayer Of The Gods. The palm mutes in the main riff are like: TSHHHST TSHHHST TSHHHST TSHHHST!
I also use the Digitech Death Metal fully mid-scooped and my lefty Schecter C7 comes next year...

i've played just about every line 6 that's came out in the past 5 years... and not even the flagship stuff(vetta II, POD pro xt, HD147) doesnt hit anything even close to dead on. the spider II's are the bottom line shit, and well. i can hear it.

maybe you need to play some more amps.

I wouldn't. Its a terrible amp. I've heard better tones from a metal zone. So please PLEASE stop reccomending it. You'll save yourself much humiliation.

the blue voodoo is a great amp, but not so much for the brutal death metal. I mean, it could do it, but not as well as the shockwave. I'd suggest the shockwave, especially if you like Dying Fetus / Suffocation tone.
I use the effects loop on my shockwave with my EQ which makes the amp sound even better.

Maybe its just because this is the first head with an effects loop I've ever had that I've used : Some people complain about the fx loops on their amp being shitty, the Shockwave's effects loop is superb. At least I think so.

I picked up a 5150 mark2 a fewyears back, second hand for £400. Justthe head though, then worked a bit more and part exchanged shit for a cab

www.loot.com and www.adtrader.co.uk seem to frequently have them. Although everytime I've bought stuff from those websites, I've always ended up in shitholes with suspicions about the products...

Check out this site!! www.rocksolidamps.com
They have all kinds of sound samples that you can hear on the sound byte page. Alot of them are death metal riffs and stuff. And some of the drum tracks they have are by Derek Roddy. They have ENGL heads and a few others. Some of these heads sound badass!!! I personally like the way the ENGL Fireball head sounds and the Powerball head also.

we all know about rock solid amps around here.

derek sells great stuff. i have a splawn promod 100 and an engl powerball(just purchased from rock solidamps btw)

derek is a great guy to do business with. he hooked me up with UNBEATABLE deals on my recent shopping spree. and he stands by his shit. he's not shady and he's not out to rip anyone off. you don't see any "economic" begginer crap there. it's only top notch gear that he feels is worthy of being called "rock solid".

the clips section is very helpful.

i had a choice.
$1,300 shipped with the old stock engl tubes.
$1,390 shipped with the tung sol 5881's and jj ecc83s.

now this wasnt new as in "NIB" it was new like floor demo or something. mint condish, with better tubes, all biased up right.

total with the z-11, z-12, isp decimator pro rack G, and powerball... like $2,100 and some change, shipped.

plus i got a free rsa t shirt and some skull key chains.

the difference in sound is very little. different treble taper. basically the knob at 7 on the v2 is what v1 sounds like at 5.

the gain fine tuning isnt audible, it's just to help against feedback, and they improved the noise gate.

so if you think those clips are amazing. don't think you can't get them from the v1 powerball.

ok ive heard of them on here but not much. they get mixed reviews.
how are the celestion g12t-75 speakers. i hear they have a scooped sound and that is not what i want. i want that HONKIN mid punch. i need 4x12's and i see them (g12t-75) go for 200 on ebay all the time. cant seem to find any other 4x12s at once. i can only spend 200 on speakers. i try to find 2 sets of 2x12s and pair em or even 4 diff speakers (that'll work together) but its too expensive that way.

i love the g12t-75's. lots of lows and crisp highs. not much in the midrange area. sounds great with midrangey heads. in my main cab i have two g12t-75's and two rola g12-65's(replaced the v30's). and i love the sound.

Wasn't saying that the V1's couldn't get brutal tone . I'd love to hear a clip of you playing your Powerball.

the guy who reviewed the behringer head at harmony central :

"I have owned Marshall JCM's and Mesa Boogies and none of them impressed me quite like my V-Ampire head."

Maybe behringer is pulling a Krank and sending out their employees to bump up the reviews.

Which reminds me the other day I was in MCC(local music store) and some guy asked about the Krank and the sales person told him that it was the best sounding amp in the place when there was like a wall of marshalls not 25 feet away.

Ah yes and thanks for the signature quote there.

as far as this one is about brutal tone and i dont wanna start a new thread i will just post my question here.

if been constantly working on my tone the last 3 weeks. overall my tone seems perferct to me except for the low e and maybe the a string. my lead sounds on all other strings are screaming but sill clear in their definition. the problem is that my low strings dont have enough treble and bite. they seem a bit muddy. i alrdy got lots of treble and mids and a hell lot of distortion and this works fine for all the other strings but my low end keeps being muddy. if i turn up the treble on my eq in order to raise the treble on my low strings all my other strings have too much highs. im still not sure what to do. maybe someone of you guys got an idea.

sry for the mistakes im drunk ..

you could try an eq pedal. set up your amp for the low chuggy strings, then step on the eq pedal for your lead sound.

Hell no My cobra is forever. I sold my randall half stack back up amp. and 2 guitars. So I bought the marshall head. and a marshall 1960 cab. But it seemed I didn't have the moeny for the cab so i had to give that one back So now I'm splitting up my cobra fll stack. and use one cab for the cobra and the other one for the marshall.
