But I might have to cut down on practise time, I got decked in the fucking jaw yesterday by some fucking emo fagget cuz I was telling them to slit there wrists or something like that. Although being the front man of a death/black metal band, im bound to get my ass kicked more than once, even though I wouldnt consider that an ass kicking.

I wouldnt say got beat, but im damn lucky I didnt hit him back. These five huge fat ass guys he was with would have raped my asshole. Infact I've always been confused when people say not to sing with your throat. It took me a while to figure out the pushing from your diaphragm and I'm still not great at it but surely you've got to put a fair bit of strain on your throat to make that sort of noise?

Anyone have any tips on growling without hurting your throat? We all know it's possible, but how do they do it?

one more thing that I just have to ask... do you even bother singing the words? Or just mimicing what it sounds like?

Hm, I can sound like that, but I don't know if I can be that loud and I'm not the most consistent vocalist. But I learned from listening and copying Akerfeldt so I was more concerned with articulation and tone. When I first started, I couldn't go more than 10 minutes before my throat started killing me. I just kept working at it, but making sure not to overwork my throat, and now I can pretty much go for hours without getting a sore throat (my throat still gets tired from staying tight from singing).

For those wondering, I'm a skinny Asian dude (5'10", 130 lbs.), I do not smoke, and I don't really drink anymore although I did partake in whiskey, rum, and vodka last year. If I can do it, I'm sure most other people can.

edit: I'm not in a band either. Singing's just a hobby for me.

Sing them but in some cases in my band there are parts where there aren't actually words and i just grunt but thts only cuz im too lazy to learnall the words.

in my band masokist i actually growl, scream, and grunt the lyrics. But there will be times when I also do growl without lyrics in parts where the song is about to begin. Alot of bands do that for example Exhumed, Decrepit Birth, Suicide Silence, and others.
