definatly add mayhem to my list....
just finished downloading 2 live shows..... THEY ARE GARBAGE! He can't sing/scream/growl?? whatever he's trying to do. His vocals are just a bunch of static. What ever made these losers famous?

The static is probably the bad production(are they from Live In Leipzig)?
Their vocals are fantastic on Deathcrush.
On Wolf's Lair Abyss they are quite annoying. |

ishan from emporer at certain parts of some songs, the fuggin pitch bender squeels. and that one song on equilibrium 7,8 i forget the number, where it sounds like a bunch of monks singing medieval church style, not the worst by a long shot, lets say an honorable mention
dying fetus singer who seems like he has to grunt a syllable to every fucking quarter note of every song, awesome music, horrible vocals

Infinity, I'ma have to have a word with you about that Jens Kidman.
On Meshuggah's "Chaosphere", he sounds like a man on fire, and I have'nt heard a vocalist come close to it since. The chorus of "Sane" or the final scream in "New Millenium Cyanide Christ" is ample proof.

..ok. im starting to hate Burzum. I used to like them (well, him) but now.. fuck. Varg's vocals are shit. Same with Six Feet Under, except i stopped liking them a long time ago.
EDIT: and the guy from Exodus. fuckin HATE those vocals, sorry.

Listen to Vital Remains. No layering. He actually is a very good deep growling vocalist IMO, but i agree... the layering is bullshit and it sucks. |

I've been accused of layering my vocals on my old band's demo. IT'S A DEMO! How can I layer my vocals on a demo? It's just a technique I found out I can do while mimicking Deicide or Cattle Decapitation. I can't explain how to do it, it just comes natural.

I'll try.
Your tongue plays a big part in the process. Like say when growling (the proper way, not with your throat) try to create a higher pitch using your voice. Because when you growl, it's mainly just a deep exhaul magified with you voice. If you manipulate your voice into like say a scream, it combines with your growl. That's the best way I can put it. I found out how to do it while singing Dead By Dawn by Deicide, so it just came to me.
