Wasn't it Pope Benedikt (the new German former Nazi Pope who was recently elected) who stated that Metal is the mark of Satan, and all rock music is evil? I know he's cathloic but its all considered Christianity.

So why would there be Christ Metal?

My band played a battle of the bands and we didnt even know it was a christian rock show (even thought there was only one christian rock band) and we got first so now we have a certificate saying we are the #1 Christian rock band of Arlington Heights!

Metal and rock music in general cannot be satanic or evil. They simply can't, no matter how hard they try. You see, the priest of my church listens to just about the same stuff I listen to, ie: Iron Maiden, (666 anyone?), Deep Purple, Metallica, Megadeth, AC/DC, and other assorted rock artists.
He also plays bass and guitar. He calls himself a bassist, but his guitar playing aint' too shabby. Hell, the guy is pretty damn good. I haven't seen/heard him play bass yet, but he has told me to call him next time we jam, and I am thinking of recruiting him for my band, as I need a bass player.

God, Satan, Ancient Gods, Elder Gods, ect. Whatever you beliieve is fine with me as long as the music rocks. I just can't stand it when someone tries to force feed a message though, including bands. Unfortionatly most Christian bands do just that and it is annoying, but I know there are some christian bands that do it for themself and what they believe too. It doesn't have to be evil to rock.

One day he took us to local concert (a bunch of Deathmetal ) and he kept saying that he really liked that music. I asked if he thought it was evil and all that, and he said music is only as evil as you make it.

The Dutch band Slechtvalk is christian metal I think. Only heard they were pretty disliked by the tr00 BMers here, but I never read their lyrics. The music is quite good though. Doomish black.

The argument 'it's not evil because my priest does it' is bunk. By that logic it's fine to rape children and all the various other things holy men have done despite being, like, totally 100% uber-Christian n' stuff.

But anyway, Christian metal's technically fine but usually doesn't come out too well, since most anything that needs to be categorized as 'Christian' as though it were a genre is a semi-revisionary attempt to spread the word to new audiences, making most 'Chistian etc' bands more missionary than musician. This does not do wonders for the music, as they're required to try and figure out what this metalhead audience likes and perform that, which never results in any genuine kind of music. That isn't to say that good Christians can't make some kickass metal, but rather that bands feeling the need to market themselves as 'Christian metal' are more likely to be derivative and forced than not. If they're any good, then, like most bands, you'll probably find out the philosophy behind their lyrics after hearing them.

Oh, and, obviously, in the preceding paragraph many other words could replace the word 'Christian' and not make the paragraph any less true.
