No, you just slap it, then it doesn't matter what the notes are, it always sounds good!
I love slap bass, I actually got a bass this morning, my mate owed me £130 from ages ago and didn't have any cash so he payed me off with a (shitty) encore bass and a peavey basic 112 (50W) that were gathering dust. Considering thats about £400 worth of stuff new I think I did quite well.

Hit the nail on the head I agree if its a metal bass solo now fusion and jazz is a different story

Hah. Nah, it would just be cool to have shit at 230+ bpm, then all of a sudden stop, bass solo, half time feel, then 230+ bpm again.

Hope ya enjoy it!
Cheers.

until that post came along.
I wish more bass solos (like Tool's 46 & 2) would appear in music. Guitar solos have just become generic and expected...

Even when they are fucking amazing, its kind of just "there" to be there. Thats why I'd rather blow someone's mind with rhythm. Or an oddly time bass solo (not me playing it, obviously).

Very true. That's why on our new CD there are only 2 guitar solo's (and that one bass solo!!!) out of 9 songs. The rythm's themselves are almost a solo, and each song does have atleast one technical breakdown section that can be considered a "solo" by the whole band. Most people seem to not even notice the lack of "leads" because of the style of music. Those that do, well...go play a Malmsteen CD. lol
Cheers.
