The Stone Temple Pilots guy gets a really good tone out of his gear. Especially for a Fender.

Anything with p-style pick ups (IBANEZ, B.C.RICH, or WARWICK). I hate the tone i get from j-style (unless it is a p/j-style combination) and soap bar pick ups. I think there is just something missing if there is not a p-stye pick up.

I have the absolute opposite opinion to you on tone and pickups, J's and Soapbars sound lush, and i dislike the P pickup tone, but each to there own.

I'm with Bill...I can get way more depth out of J and Soapbars. P's sound too punchy and metallic for my tastes. It has to be smooth.

Mike D'Antonio from Killswitch Engage's "The End Of Heartache" Nice and thick!
Also we can't forget David Ellefson's ball crushing tone on every megadeth album

I dunno which recording you're talking about, but the one I heard had the bass sounding like a high-class rubber band.

I agree. Alex Webster isn't as good as you metaltabbers make him out to be.

The sound i most try to emulate is probably Eric Langlois' on None So Vile, heavy but with all the lows (Graves Of The Fathers) and highs (break in Slit Your Guts) nice and clear.
But best bass tone of all time for me is probably Geezer Butler's sound on Master Of Reality.

 Cannibal Corpse lol
Ive never really liked them... mostly because I dont like the vocals.
The bass never impressed me...
Tom from Slayer is a fuckin mad man tho! Have some respect! Some of the riffs he plays while he's "singing"(yelling at the top of his lungs ) are nuts!

Alex Webster's tones, he comes up with some really nice low growly punchy tones, mixes in the mid-range good too.....and Geddy Lee, nice and dirty

lars from spiral architect gets some nice clean tones out even during crazy riffs ( same with sean from cynic, and roger from atheist). Jaco Pastorius... duh. Victor Wooten has amazing tone. Crisp, clean, and sometimes a little murky and phased. Alex webster has a cool low really treble heavy tone.
My own tone is pretty good ( not to be cocky or anything) but I have a really nice custom effect on my bp-80 and as long as I have a nice amp it comes out good.
