Fave non-metal bands....hmm
odd topic eh? just seeing if you people are strictly metal heads or not. I know I'm not.
I really like the postal service, the cure, cursive, and (here's the embarrisingly emo side of me) Death cab for cutie, and Brand new.
now now people, it's your turn, what bands that are NOT metal that you enjoy?

I like a lot of stuff mentioned before so there's no point repeating it.
Things I like a lot ( and not mentioned before):
Kwartet Jorgi
Warsaw Village Band
Orkiestra Antyczna (Antic Orchestra)-Gardzienice - Metamorfozy - Music of Ancient Greece
When I got tired of modern music I started too seek for something diferent and that's what i found.
These three bands are my nr 1 in case of traditional music. Forget about all those "folk" bands playing pop-like music. Warsaw Village Band won BBC World Music Prize so it might be easy to check it for all of You.
Orkiestra Antyczna is something i strongly recomend for all people interested in antic music ( especially all Nile fans ) Group is playing antic instruments reconstructed by Maciej Rychły. All songs are original antic greek music. IMO that music is absolutely briliant. Here's one song in mp3:
http://mp3.wp.pl/p/strefa/sciagnij/42081.mp3
one of "lighter" songs. Some seem to me like ritual music:]
if i find something in english about them I'll post it here.

there are too many to list....
but to name some:
Brad Mehldau (best modern jazz pianist I have ever seen)
Aphex Twins (creative chill out music)
Bartok (Progressive Classical music)

Some seem to me like ritual music:]
if i find something in english about them I'll post it here.
|
im listening now,to that song. its very nice, and some of the vocal harmonies sound a bit like a tape warping... have you noticed that? they sound ALMOST off key...its very interesting stuff , post some more about where i can listen to these guys?
and if you like brad mehldau, youd probably like bill evans. for the love of all things holy get a copy of bill evans- alone

Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Tool, Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins, APC, Porcupine Tree, Guns n Roses, some Audioslave, Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Oasis, some Red Hot Chilli Peppers, SOAD (up to toxicity), Placebo, sublime...
All I can think of right now.

Iwill.:]
Yeah that was their purpose. Iread interview with Maciej Rychły( he's "music archeologist" he reconstructed neolith instruments, and his knowledge about music is amazing) about preparations before recording. he said that it may sound quite strange for the listener because those harmonies are not used in modern music. Quite interesting for me was use of "biały śpiew" (white singing) which is traditional way of singing among middle-western slavs. it's melodic screaming. I can't describe it better.

Does ambient count as non-metal? What about industrial?

B.Y.O.B. did atract me to the album. good song. cigaro's not that great, but the rest of the album is worse. but revenga is good. so b.y.o.b. and revenga are the only good ones, imo

yeah, for jazz and blues and sgtuff i really wishh i had of been born like 20 years ago, cause when i hear a good jazz or blues song i like it but i know theres a million styles of those genres, and i don't know WHO to check out. i like upbeat jazz piano with of course the other instruments, i also really enjoy the jazz flute, and i love blues guitar, like BB king.. but still i wish i had have been born a lot longer ago. other then the disco era, i think i'm living in one of the worst eras foir music. but i still got my death metal

jazz is yummy. I took jazz dancing class and it's almost as fun as tap dancing.
Which is why i love the band Tilly and the Wall. They tap dance for part of their percussion. which rules.

I know, I know, but he has a command over his instrument that I would kill to have.

if its a question of what music era to be born in, my pick would be around 1920s jazz era, prohabition, everyone wearing suits and porkpie hats all night jams in cities like new orleans, chicago, new york. or to be old enough to be in bands around the early 80s playing grind

i dont know how many of these threads ive posted in. here goes another.
no specific "bands" here:
renaissance
celtic
folk
classical
new age
and whatever you want to call these:
korn-follow the leader,issues
tool-aenema
deftones-adrenaline, around the fur, white pony
spineshank-strictly deisal, height of callousness
AFI-the art of drowning
blink 182-enema of the state
dont like it? fuck off, every one of those are sentimental to me.
