Not an attack on screamers and screachers and growlers and whatever else you people do...but I dont uderstand the point of all of it...I really really tried but...no offense...I think it sounds retarded...and I want to know who is responsible for metal going this way...who started it?? The change seemed kinda sudden to me...but do people really enjoy it?? I just dont see how...I miss singing...to me songs mean more if they are sung...not screamed...Probably because I cant understand any of the words...but if someone could explain to me why all this happened and why they like it...it might help...

Hm, I sing a variety of black metal screech and death growl, and clean is a mixture of trash and black 'opera' (think clean stuff on borknagar or arcturus).
I'm realy bad, but at least my grunts sound ok.

*sigh* Here we go again.
Ever heard of abstract art? It is A LOT like that. Not to mention the lyrics can be understood PERFECTLY if you just read them first. If you really like singing that much and won't be open to other vocal styles, than go listen to your singing, but don't bitch at us about it.
Another thing about it, in "Brutal" metal the vocals are meant to sound inhuman. Think of it as "wow! that's a fuckin' monster on the mic!"

i listen to some chilled out music with singing vocals and i cant understand them without reading the lyrics first...as dystopia said "in "Brutal" metal the vocals are meant to sound inhuman. Think of it as "wow! that's a fuckin' monster on the mic!""
as for me - i go for the cult of luna style vocals, i dont know how to describe them though...

We've already been through this. This is'nt the first time you've asked this question. Its when the vocal is used as a percussive instrument.

I know i already asked the question...but I could not find the post where i asked it...so i decided i would try again...but this time remember the name of the post...
so basically...the point of it is to try and add a new flavor to the music?? I mean I know that in a concert there are a lot of visuals to take in...and they accent the music completely...but is the screaming kind of a way to keep that extra edge...but just with vocals??
I might be wrong...I just think I may enjoy it more if a can understand it...

One conveys the chiming of a bird, the other conveys the clap of a thunderstorm ... It becomes a percussive instrument.

Assuming you had asked an honest question, we can establish that it has now been answered.
To "add an extra flavor" and "an edge" to the music ... unconventional music requires unconventional vocals ... When you create an instrumental that is essentially "abstract", you must have a vocal that is equally "abstract" ( if the music is to have a vocal ).

Fuck this shit, it's been done about 400 billion times and each time it's been fucked up. I'll make a proper poll with as many type of vocal style I can think of.

here is how I see it about the harsher vocal styles...
For Brutal Death metal, the concept was to be basically merciless, destructive, violent, disgusting etc. When I think of these I can think of a demon or something similar in like a horror movie, and listen to how they have their voices, the demonic low scary type of things. they represent those words in the movies and thats how I think the vocals are supposed to be portrayed
For Screeching Black Metal, it is used to represent the anguish or pain etc of the music, and when a person is in the most extreme form of pain and anguish, they usually well.. screech

I definately Growl!.. And when I do growl, thanks for the all the experience I've obtained, I sound like a damn Bear!..
I've gotten to the point of growling with an aggressive deep-howl. Some members from here have heard me..but it's been a while since they haven't heard my new death metal vocals.. It'll be a challenge when I sing and play guitar live in about 6 months from now...
also, I can scream when necessary...

I'm a growler too, Trans has heard me... I guess you could say I sound like Frank on Effigy, but I can do alot more than that (screams, Crickets, Frogs... Almost the weird Predator vocals by this guy in this band Heinous Killings).
