Rammstein isnt dark. Rammstein isnt metal.

Black Dhalia Murder are decent but my vote goes jointly to At The Gates and Heartwork-era Carcass.

Okay. Rammstein is completely fucking horrible. They are flaming bisexuals with only pathetic attemps at making what metalheads might think of as music when really all they do is piss us off with those damned poser-heavy-rock songs. I hate them. I agree with you. Forgive me, my lord. I know not where to turn for mercy.
And, agreeing with a few already posting the band, I would have to say Carcass as my serious answer. They can kick out some good shit and keep it on the limits of death metal and heaviness.

Thank you. This thread has trouble written all over it.
And Rammstein is metal. Its Industrial Metal, you botched abortions.
I don't care for Carcass, but I understand their influence on Grind and Death metal.
And I swear to god, if I ever see anyone forget October Tide again, I'll stab them.
Seriously though. The two albums they released kick the shit out of anything In Flames has ever released, except maybe The Jester Race or Whoracle.

I'll still call Dissection a Black Metal band until I die. The closest thing to death metal I'll ever consider them is gothenburg. But eh.
Cryptopsy is brutal death. Nothing CLOSE to being melodic.

pussies....
im simply saying melodic can be looked at different ways...
sure cryptopsy is brutal, but to me...songs like phobophile or cold hate are pretty melodic.
i'd even venture to say that Dying Fetus is melodic...just cuz they're not twats like Sonata Arctica or CoB and they don't use keyboards doesn't mean it isn't melodic. Its simply melody based in chromatic and minor pentatonics with brutal death distortion...but its still melody...fockers...
melody is relative. notice a lot of people are putting Carcass and other people putting Bodom....both melodic, albeit in very different ways.
so if i was going to say the best "melodic" metal band i'd say Fetus.
but according to your definition (you guys aren't really decribing melodic bands...just 'pretty' melodic bands) i'd say Dissection. And Dissection rules...and yeah they're black metal....they were the beginning of second wave so all you In Flames and Dimmu Borgir piles should pick up The Somberlain and give credit where credit is due...
peace
