Musicians, read!
Ok, that RIPDime guy made a big deal about the metaltabs band thing, got everyone excited, then just left. Are any of you guys still interested in making a song because I sure would. We would just need some people to partcipate and get ideas down. It has to be a genre that all can agree on, preferably nothing to extreme and technical. Maybe have some guitarists write a rythem guitar track, pick the best and start from there? I dont know, it would be really cool if this all happend. How many people would still like to do this before all the detail comes in?

hmm...I could do this. I have a fairly decent mixing program. Send me mp3's and I would rerecord them via a mic and mix them with whoever elses mp3s.
But if the mixing job isn't for me, I can bring up the low end.
This could work. But it would take some serious planning and cooperation and compromise. I'm up for it though. I've got all summer off with nothing to do.
Anyone else in?

Alright. Well, for now, if you want to participate in writing the song, just say what instrument you want to play on the track and we can get all the people who want to participate i guess. Im in for drums.

Hey, its just to have some fun, i dont think we should really care what genre it is. Just something we can stand. Maybe we shouldnt even decide a genre, just do everything as we go along. I was thinking, start with rythem guitar, have all the guitarist record their track, make the mp3 available for everyone to download, then make a poll to see which one is liked most. Then have the next intrument be recorded over the winning rythem track. That way everyone would be able to put their own touch into in, then have the polls do the work. But like i said, we can go into detail later...

After the Rhythm is decided, there will be one week to write the drums, and then another week for the poll. That way things will get done and this won't be forgotten like RIPDime's.

THE RULES
Tracks will be decided in the following order:
Rhythm Guitar
Drums
Bass
Lead Guitar
Vocals.
Any one interested has to write original material.
Vocalist has to write lyrics.
If you are to participate, you should be a regular here. We don't want any no-shows.
All tracks have to be available to download.
Once the Rhtyhm Guitar has been decided there will be 2 weeks of writing/recording until the next poll and so on.

synchronized recordings are the best when you record drums first, all studio recording situations ive been in its that way, good luck on that shit, i hate synchronizing, but its definatley good to practice and learn it, whether its a 4 track or a computer recording program

what medium are you guys doing this? is it a matter of transfering a file into whatever recording software you got then add tracks? cause you can EQ it as you add tracks, i just got a old recording program up and am now trying to figure it all out, im new to all this digital recording stuff via computer, im more used to 4 tracks and reel to reel type situations, all digital stuff someone else conducted. if i can figure this program out i can do a drum track, im just kinda green toward how you send it to another person and so on, so id like to participate but i am vastly computer illiterate

It's pretty obvious we have to post it as MP3's so it'll be smaller, but IMO the guy doing the mixdowns should get all the tracks as 32- or 16bit wav, so it'll be easyer to adjust EQ and stuff.
And we should begin with drums...

If am to do the mixing, I would need to be able to download the music file or have it sent to me via msn.
I would import the track into my editing program, sychronize it with the other tracks, and balance everything out. It would only take me a couple days.

Tulvox: what brains was getting at is that whe n you come to do the mixing, you need the best quality files for it (32bit WAVE), as opposed to mp3, which will yeild poorer results due to the compression. The mp3s are so we can download them easily and vote for the best ones

Yea, WAV files because they aren't compressed, are much better quality than mp3 files. WAV's will be much bigger however i'm afraid, but you'll/we'll reap the rewards

Oh yea, and make sure that people don't fiddle with their own EQ during recording, leave it flat, let you (Tuvlox) deal with that when mixing it all

Well, we still have lead guitar if you would like to do that. Its up to you if you want to try keys. It isnt about what only one person wants, just try whatever, and if the votes say keep it in, it stays in. And when doing the rythem guitar track, try not to make it short that way it will be easier to add in leads and different variations in drums, stuff like that. One more thing. You can try out for more than one part, but if you win one, you cant do anymore.

Yeah, good luck with this shit guys. My suggestion is setting up an FTP for those musicians involved, and using that to store riff mp3s, so one person can mix it all, and have all the shit available to them. Just a suggestion, but wtf do I know?

Since we won't be doing anything to extreme, I guess we should take a middle of the road approach to tuning. How about E or D? That would also make it easier for non-guttoral-deathmetal vocalist.
And it's easier to incorporate a lower tuned instrument to an higher pitched song , than vice-versa

I guess I was going to leave the tuning up to the Rhythm Guitarist, since they have to come up with the layout of the song. But if the participants can decide on a tuning before the contest gets underway, then we could use that. Thought I suggest it be unanimous vote or else we will have problems.
