I would dearly love to have been the first to make fun of this horrible, horrible shitty empty little genre name. Powerviolence! Why not DYNAMICBLASTERY or BALLISTICRIOT or just plain old FAGGOTONASTICK?
I don't know any of the bands mentioned so far. But if they go around caling themselves 'powerviolence', I probably can take an uneducated guess.

man is the bastard never toured far from LA, only once in 97<that they actually went as far as the east coast>, ive met very few people who actually seen the band live in the east coast. so it was a bit of a trick question that if you were to lie i would know
anyway, what i dont understand is why you owned the albums and seen these bands live when you dont like them?

in the way of owning albums, my brother got me into most of the stuff i listen to, after hearing <b>clips</b> of stuff, i.e. most bands in this genre + others, you tend to be able to tolerate it, hence i went out and purchased albums because i thought they sounded good...
i goto shows with my friends sometimes and they used to listen to that and i'd occasionally see bands like these
**But MITB played here, MITB in march of 95-96 i think, the guy at a local skateshop did their flyer

because they were in the backseat of my truck for a year, and my truck goes through everything...
and all the albums were crushed and are missing their cases, and in one of my compulsive cleaning sprees i threw them all away
i have some stuff
Locust / Arab on Radar split - 7"
Ten Grand is the Vida Blue - 7"
pig destroyer / benumb split - 3" mini, pretty hard to come by (has a dwarves cover - fuck you up and get high on it)
and a few others, if you want i'd LOVE to mail them to you, every day i draw closer to throwing them away

well, i guess they could of played there before that last tour they did,or maybe that was a flyer from that tour. i know they came to new england and the northeast only once, the reason why i know because an old roomate interviewed bastard noise for his zine. the band rarely left cali in all the years of thier existence, did a few small tours and one big one as a final one, then turned into bastard noise, and henry barnes doing amps for christ. which is the wierdest part about that band..........they all turned out in noise projects.

powerviolence is hard to define. its so unbelievably close to hardcore and grindcore. It's really just thrash-core or thrash-punk with some additional blast beats here and there.
at any cost infest rules. hellnation are decent. fuck on the beach had annoying vocals from what i remember. charles bronson can hardly be called powerviolence.
i think that powerviolence is also suspiciously determined by the production values of the recording in question.

They were awesome.....one of those bands I'd hear on the local college radio and love but never bought any of their albums or saw them live.
"Modern hate vibe"
coolest song name ever.

Is powerviolence supposed to be along the lines of crust punk/crustcore? If so I think I'll like some of the bands mentioned.

Funnily enough, when I saw this thread today, the first thing that occurred was to make fun of the name. Good to see little changes in three years.

So basically it's an amalgamation of amalgamtions of consolidated amalgamations that doesn't really deserve recognition as it's own subgenre. There are a whole lot of subgenres like that, and most of them don't sound as gay as POWARVILENSE!
