I actually think they sound pretty good, when Chris Richards was in Suffocation his sounded pretty good.

When I saw Suffocation in February(in NYC), Terrance Hobbs(the black dude) was using a warlock with EMG's. Sounded pretty brutal, naturally, but that was a guitar... I'm sure he only uses that for stage though, I'd assume he uses something better for recording... unless Suffo are still heavily on drugs. :P
It was my first metal show, btw, and it brutally kicked incalculable amounts of ass. Cattle Decapitation and Behemoth played just before the did, and that was completely orgasmic.
Heh, sorry for not staying on topic(just realized this is bass zone), but I felt like I had to share the show with y'all.
If you want a fancy looking bass, try that ESP Tom Araya signature model, or some of their other basses. Ibanez make good basses too, to my knowledge.

I wouldnt get a bc rich bass, unless you just like the look of it, the tone will be awful, unless you install EMG's then it just might be a better bass, but its totally up to you like always, go and try one out in your local guitar store.

You can always tell if a bass will sound good by just playing it accoustically. If you don't get a good sound like that, there's nothing the pickups and amp can do to get a good sound amplified.
Having said that I can tell you that I own a B.C. Rich Warlock and I think it's a real piece of shit. It looks good but it's way out of balance and has horrible tone and generally sounds cheap. Luckily I don't have to play that thing anymore, I just pick it up every once in a while for fun and to make sure I don't forget how to play a four string.
If you're going to buy online, try going to a music store and looking to see if they carry the bass you're looking at. Try it there, and if you don't like the sound of a new one, you probably won't like a used one either. If you're looking at a B.C. Rich, I'd say ask for a strap and see how it balances too. It's much harder to play when you have to worry about keeping the neck up.

I say do away with it. You can always stand in its former location if you need to make use of the perspective it gave you, but will benefit from the ability to situate yourself in different loci with ease.

Personally, I hate B.C. Rich. Hate the sound, hate the looks, and I ESPECIALLY hate the balance.

Thats nice, assfuck. BC Rich are not worth the money to buy a good one unless its an american handmade. And for that price you could get a custom.
people bitch about them because they are the musical equivilancy to poop. I'd buy an Ibanez GIO before I'd even considering buying a BC.

dude Ibanez suck ass!!(not all Ibanez) as will as washburn the neck on Ibanez sucks i use to play on them before i switch to B.C.R and Moser man i could not belive how many people had the same problem on the neck as i did. What was the problem you ask? the neck broke, and not true NJ series is not a bad series nor expansive it is just the same as Warwick brand besides ever bass player has to find there sound so rather it be BCR, Jackson, Gibson, ESP or what ever in the end its not only your bass that makes the difference on what sound you get but your amps too.. feather more you don't like BC Rich Guitars dont play on them and shut up... not everyone like the sound you like..

I have played a bc rich bass and was not impressed by the tone and feel of the thing (haha and shape) (but again each to there own) i just made a nice comment of suggesting you try out other pro basses (ok besides ibanez) you never know what you might be deeply missing out on..

Give it up Bill, dumbfucks will always be dumbfucks. On a side note, you should ban him on principle alone.
