Out of boredom I was browsing countries on MA, came across Thailand, and on impulse, decided to download some Thai thrash.

Donpheebin - Way of Death - 1994
http://metal-archives.com/release.php?id=150572

Side one of the tape was just really, really shit. I could barely hear what was going on due to the very poor production and there were 2-4 of the simplest riffs in each song and very few tempo changes, and out of nowhere, a pretty impressive solo.

Side two; where the fuck did this come from? '86 Sepultura anyone? Well, not as fast, but they share the same riff sets. The production quality triples, and the songs are now worth listening to with a good variety of riffs, tempo shifts and a few eastern sounding intros and leads. Finally, a cheesy whispered outro and some rain effects.

Is it true that Morbid Saint is re-releasing Spectrum of Death?

@ Wolfsherz. So far so good with that Infernal Majesty

@ Hecatomb. That would be good. I found this:
The two albums where eventually re-released as a double shot CD in 2005 by Keltic records, unfortunately this was in limited quantity and only 500 of those CDs saw the light of day. This stuff is insanely hard to track down, and I recently lost a bid on the Keltic released CD on eBay as the priced climbed to 52 dollars. Currently the only way to get your hands on this stuff is to pay stupid collectors prices for it. I'm hoping that someone will do a proper re-release of this stuff, as it's really some of the best overlooked US thrash out there in my opinion.

@ Pr0az. If it's thrash you're after, give this a visit http://deathrash.proboards52.com/

Yeah, I've been hunting around for (decently priced) Morbid Saint stuff for a while now, but to no avail. I'll keep hunting though... I'll probably end up paying the jacked up price when I make some money this Summer, if I don't find it cheaper first. =/

The good source for 80s Trash Music

The good source for 80s Trash Music is JustMusicStore.com.
I just downloaded the complete Sodom, Overkill and Enslaved discography in a very good quality for just 0.15$ per track.
Any other good resource for metal mp3 will be appreciated.
Thanks

The title of this thread could do with being changed now that it's being used as a general thrash thread. By me mainly. Ha.

'Soldiers of Misfortune' by Sacrifice. On first listen it didn't impress me too much. Not as much as 'Forward to Termination' did the first time through, but time will tell.

Does anyone have Metal Church's 'Hanging in the Balance'. I just checked out the reviews on MA and they've made me very curious mainly because decent thrash from 1994 is pretty much non-existent. So, is it really that good?

Jamming to it now, its pretty good man to be from 1994, most of the songs i notice are kind of slow tempo(?).

Ok, I might get it soonish.

They certainly aren't straight forward thrash. Thrash/Speed is a better description.

Ripping Corpse were pretty cool. Death/thrash metal, pretty good for its time, they had their own sound, so it's kinda hard to compare em to any other bands. The vocalist can get annoying though.

They were Erik Rutan's band before they split up and he went to join Morbid Angel, and many years later the remnants of RC came to form the martial-arts themed technical death metal band Dim Mak, which Erik also produced.

Rigor Mortis will appeal to all thrash fans. It's very awesome death/thrash from the 80's, recently they reformed and have been doing some tours.

Thanks.

I'm currently listening to Hellwitch. It's about the ninth time I've listened to their album and it keeps getting better. It feels so energetic. Does anyone else have it?

I've been looking for 'Dreaming with the Dead' online to purchase, but like Morbid Saint, I've not (yet) had much success. :/

I'll get my hands on it eventually, though. It's too vital an album to not join my collection.

Man, I haven't heard Hellwitch in ages.

Those are certainly the most consistent of the Germans.

Some bands that released 1 or 2 decent albums from Germany;

Mekong Delta
Deathrow
Paradox
Exumer
Protector
Darkness
Assassin
Toxin

Yea
Sacrifice,Razor,Infernal Majesty, Slaughter ( Fuck of Death!), D.B.C and voivod ( dont think they count) to name a few of the popular ones. Although not as big as the other scenes, they made some of the unique thrash around

Wow, I'm really loving Razor at the moment. I got Violent Restitution about 6 months ago and didn't fully get into it until Friday. That scream that starts the album... . Also, it's pretty fucking fast.

Mmm, I need a few more Razor albums.

I just got my first Holy Moses album, Finished With The Dogs. Really agressive sound due to that crazy woman growling and the drumming. There are no intros or quieter parts, just riffs all the time and I'm sure I've heard a few of those riffs in a Mekong Delta album.

Is that the 'demo' which is acutally an unreleased album called 'Destruction System'?

If so, it's fairly good, not quite as ripping as the first outing, but certainly not bad, although the same can't be said for the production....

hmm I dunno... they max out at 250/260 MAX...

Sadus are ridiculously fast... and Cryptic Slaughter... there's quite a lot but no-one has ever been able to answer me who is THE ultimate one fastest thrash band!? :P

I thought Perish in Flames was more 280bpm... I'd say Sadus are more Deathrash... I haven't heard any Cryptic Slaughter and I really don't think there is one thrash band faster than the rest, only certain albums/songs.

In most of the 80's, I don't think any straight up thrash band ever went faster than Slayer?

Edit: Well maybe it's Nuclear Assault. They have some really short songs like "Lesbians", "Mother's Day" and "Hang the Pope" which are borderline Napalm Death-style grindcore, the song has almost blastbeats in it, fastest skank beats I've ever heard in any straight up thrash metal ever.

Cryptic Slaughter fuckin slay.

I think a Kriuz demo had like the fastest during the 80's, never heard the band of the demo.

By 'check it out', I'm assuming you mean download because I've never seen it on sale anywhere. I've only ever seen it once available for download, and now I can't get it because the site has been closed down. As soon as the new site rises from the ashes it'll probably be the first thing I download.

@Soeru: I only have Game Over by Nuclear Assault and I forgot about Hang the Pope because I'm not a fan of the band, but yeah, it's damn fast. I read somewhere that some of SOD's stuff is close to containing blast beats but I've never heard it for myself.

Yep! In fact S.O.D. was the first band ever to use a true blastbeat in a song, particularly the one called "Milk", that's now known to be the first blastbeat ever recorded, this predates before Napalm Death and Repulsion started using blastbeats in their songs.

My cheerios ain't the same!

No sir!

I found a version of the 'Spectrum of Death/Destruction System' reissue online for 50 bucks and bought it. Yep, a hard copy.

I'm pretty ecstatic right now. Can't wait to get it.

Recently acquired Believer's first album. Even though I've heard it only once, it sounded like it listened to it before. The vocals as with all Believer are fairly irritating after a while. Though this is their first album, they already have their trademark sound. Not a bad album.

My cheerios ain't the same!

its was a frequently used jazz technique long before charlie was even born, i was told. never took to effort of checking it, but if he was the guy who invented blastbeats, im sure he woulda gotten more credit

Nooo just the first one imo. I enjoy the other two. The vocals on the first album sound like... Tom G Warrior crossed with Varg

Haha, I do actually quite like the vocals but one whole album later and I can't take any more.

Heard any Grinder (Ger)?

Yeah, whoever told you that you are correct. It's just that the blast beat wasn't performed as fast back then as it is today.

I just got a few, but haven't had a chance to listen to them all yet.

Acrophet - Corrupt Minds
Gammacide - Victims of Science
Toxic - World Circus
Tankard - Zombie Attack

...and some non-thrash...
Megadeth - United Abominations
Monstrosity - Spiritual Apocalypse

I like what I've heard so far from the Gammacide album, and Tankard is Tankard, so it's great.

When I first get into a band, I like to get the albums in order or their release date but I avoided Tankard's first 'cos I read some bad reviews. How does it compare to the two after it (which are excellent).

More raw, more primitive, still fun. Those next two are thrash classics, though.
