Rush

Yes, the progressive rock band. No, not Yes, the progressive rock band, Rush, the progressive rock band. Rush rock Saddam Hussein's ass all the way to Russia. Rush whip on a wildhorse's ass. Rush play that rock music. I'm going to write a song about how hard Rush rock my face. I suggest you all utilize this thread to heap your praise upon Rush.

I remember you making the same thread a while back.

Anywho, I prefer "undaground" prog bands like The Flower Kings to Rush, but Rush are still cool.

Ahh Rush, love 'em. My favorite rock band other than Zeppelin. One of my secret plessures is to rap myself up in a cozy blanket, eat some blueberry yogurt, and throw on some 2112. I love that album, Twilight Zone gives me chills ever time I hear it.

I threatened to write a song about Rush, and I never spew empty threats. Thusly, you are all condemned to read this-

This band played at the Smirnoff Center in Dallas, Texas
About 10,000 people were at the show!
The jam session was spectacular
It whipped on a werewolf's ass

Rush can rock
Rush can roll
Rush can rock
Rush can roll

The progressive rock band played it on the stage
The progressive rock band got down like a magickist
The crowd roared like a sea monster
The jam session whipped a wildhorse's ass

Rush can rock
Rush can roll
Rush can rock
Rush can roll

The progressive rock show was over at last
A lot of people got to meet the progressive rock band
The progressive rock show was a success
It was a great progressive rock show at the Smirnoff Center, August 20, 2002

Rush can rock
Rush can roll
Rush can rock
Rush can roll

Rock over Taunton
Rock on New Bedford
Savers- It's the ultimate treasure hunt!

Let's see if anybody gets this.

I don't really like the singing but everything else is great, all of the musicians are wonderful.

Rush is in fact phenomenal (regardless of some of their more recent releases).

2112 is still my favorite with "A Farewell to Kings" pulling a close second...

Rush rules quite a bit. Probably more than any 20 people you know put together. I think my favorites coincide exactly with Kylito's, though maybe not in that order.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! I'm so glad I bothered to check this thread before retiring for the night. That's the greatest thing I've ever heard.

Well, I guess this guy didn't get it! I'm still waiting.

As for favorite Rush albums, mine are Permanent Waves and Fly By Night, neither is better than the other. Actually, By-Tor and the Snowdog is playing in my head right now, as the Red Sox play. I have like a whole entertainment center in my brain. It kicks ass.

Rush's first 9 or so records are an unbroken stream of asskicking. That's all I have to say on the matter.

I'm with you on that one. And it does kick ass...

As for your riddle, I read the lyrics twice and don't have the slightest, so I won't bother.

PST's last statement is also an undeniable fact as far as I'm concerned (although the first album without Neil Peart was kind of a weak Zeppelin ripoff IMO).

I heard an interview with Geddy Lee sometime around 1989 or so on KNAC in Long Beach where he was asked what kind of music he thought Rush would play if they were just starting out that year and he said "speed metal".

I tried to find a transcript online and failed, but found this amusing quote instead:
"Everything does sound like Rush. Rush has kind of been a theme [for us] lately. We were kind of realizing that, like, speed metal is basically Rush sped way up. I've never listened to Rush, and I'm not personally a Rush fan, but just about everybody else I know knows a lot about Rush."-Lou Barlow of Sebadoh, grand prize winner of the "Who Can Make The Most References To Rush In One Paragraph?" contest.

We can only imagine what place they would have in our record collections. Would they have topped Testament? Megadeth? Slayer? It boggles the mind.

And Chris Rezendes is a superb fellow for making a Rush thread.

Holy shit! Rush rule! I play bass because of Geddy. My favorite album would have to be Moving Pictures though. Gotta love Limelight!

Cheers Chris, great thread.

This is soooo cool that all you guys are still digging Rush!
I'm mad for the first four or five albums, Fly By Night rules and Anthems is sheer class. 2112 is awesome!
I used to get up on stage at a jam night with some old rockers and rattle through Finding My Way and that song still rocks!

It's an undeniable fact. I'm surprised this isn't listed in Guiness Book of World Records. Morbid Angel are working pretty hard to usurp them, though. They've got seven so far by my count.

Actually, it's pretty obvious to me what Rush would have sounded like- Watchtower. Listen to the song YYZ. The first couple minutes of that song sounds like it could have been written by Watchtower. Seriously.

They would have sounded a lot like Watchtower. Every time I listen to Watchtower I'm reminded of Rush. The only difference is I think Rush take themselves less seriously.

And although their first album was weak in comparison to what would follow, Finding My Way and Working Man, in my opinion, make up for its general lack of Rush-ness.

And Morbid Angel will catch up, but they'll never put on a progressive rock show in Dallas.

No, but they did put on a delightful heavy metal jam session at the Aragon- about 3 thousand people were at the show. From all available reports, the crowd roared like a lion in a cage.

Rush was decent for a good stetch up until the mid-80's. YYZ has to be one of my favourite instrumental ever.

But for prog, they pale in compairison to Yes, ELP and Gentle Giant (easily the 3 best prog bands ever).

Rush
All time favorite 70s rock band.
Neil Pert is genius....write all lyrics/music and is one of those rare unpredictable drummers that never cease to impress.
GeddyLees talent with rhythm and vocals and keys is outstanding.
Alex Lifeson guitar work is among the few of that era that impresses the hell out of me.
I started listening to 2112 when I was prob 10.....have always loved and praised RUSH since then.

To take a few moments to nitpick, I'm fairly certain Peart wrote mostly lyrics and Lifeson and Lee wrote almost all of the music. Does anybody else thinks it's hilariously, intentionally pretentious on Manowar levels that they changed their names? If I ever start a band, I'm changing my name to Brellie "Super" Awesome.

They did? Did not know that. At least they picked normal names but it is still hilarious. I always crack up at how members of bands like Voivod, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, etc... start out with gay nick names and then eventually end up using their real names plus the nickname and finally drop the nickname entirely as their careers move on and they learn to hate the nicknames they gave themselves.

Not sure where you guys get the Watchtower comparison. I bought "Control and Resistance" when it came out and got super bored of it after about 3 months and could not stand the vocals. It seemed a shame to me because I thought the band had a lot of potential musically if they stopped trying so hard to be technically over the top. I noticed "Energetic Disassembly" has a different vocalist... does he sound more or less the same/worse/better? Which album do like better?

Geddy and Lifeson are normal names? Holy shit. I love Control and Resistance. It was my first Watchtower album and my favorite of the two. For what it's worth, most people prefer the first.
