the way i feel about the pivot roll stick motion is like jojo mayer about the push/pull. "like if im feeling lonely in a drumshop and i want attention ill do this, but yeah, i dont use it much"

instead of a gravity blast per say id like to use it as a 2 hand pivot roll drumfill for a super slow drumbeat. the band i play in is real slow with tempo so no blast beats at all with this band

Hmmm...I´m sure there are bands using the gravity blast technique. I think Jong Longstreth and James King used it in some Origin songs and also during live concerts ofc.
So is this technique only to use for live shows if the snare is triggered?

A friend of mine in a local Technical Death group uses it.

The technique itself is pretty easy I think...at least our drummer learned it very well in 3 days.

But the problem is, that it isnt loud enough.

Been to a few of their practices and no, he doesn't use any microphones at all. His playing is pretty amazing, playing drums is basically the only thing he does besides being with his girlfriend, drinking and working. He even takes lessons.

Yeah mine are coming along, still need work though, getting them Audible is quite hard, I now kinda keep constant presure on the stick to make sure the Up hit isn't pussy!

i noticed that the amount of lift from the rim, instead of pressure down increases the volume. you kinda let the ergonomic factor create your volume. but for me its still not that loud

like if your band carried its own PA system and you have a good mic setup i can see it being used commonly, i have no problem with micing the kit

once at a show that carried the old grateful dead PA<this place is called "the call" in providence, this PA system was awesome but the soundman was a dipshit who either miced up drums to dominate the sound or not well enough to be heard>my kit was miced so well, i was doing a right hand pivot roll/left hand hitting underside hihat and snare<just move the hihat in overshadowing the snare a bit. this was my single kick days but it sounded like 10 machine guns going off, i would never use that tho becease id need a behemoth PA system to back it up

Okay to Trigger a snare or any drum for that matter you need the following:

(Ps I don't trigger at the moment, cause I am too poor!)

Drum Module, this is also known as a Drum Brain, and stores all the sounds that you can assign to any trigger.

The trigger: this is a little device that clips onto the side of your drum and basically senses when the drum has been hit and sends a signal to your Drum Module telling the module to play whatever sound has been assigned to that trigger.

You also need a power supply and cables (gat cables are fine I believe).

thats 345 US for just your drum brain

triggers are between 15-60 US per trigger and you need different triggers for toms, snare and bass.

then you need to get leads, okay they are cheap as fuck, but still another 10 for a lead

then you gotta mount your brain, which is about 40 I think for a mount (I don't know off hand and can't be fucked to find out)

so Triggering is expensive

but that said sound consistancy is REALLY good, and once you have the triggers and leads etc. you can use different modules etc. upgrade so it is a fairly good investment, but a costly one, hence why I DON'T trigger

I use a different approach. Instead of triggering my snare, I use a mic and run it through a compressor/limiter. I bought an Alesis 3630 from Decrepit Birth for $25. What I've done is used to compressor to limit the volume of my hard strikes and bring the levels up on my softer strikes. This way the gravity blast is just as loud as a single handed blast beat. The only thing I don't like about the setup is that my mic is a clip on, and the fucking thing keeps humming with the vibration. I need to get a stand alone mic stand for it.
This technique is the same techinque that Flo uses. He doesn't use triggers on his snare. The only difference is that he uses an AKG mic, which are awsome, but they're about $140 canadian/austrailian.
