I'm sure his vocals on Effigy were processed, I remember someone (probably Jarrod!) stating it as fact in a thread not so long back.
Effigy Of The Forgotten is, quite rightly, held in the highest of esteems and it gives the phrase 'genre defining' it's definitive meaning. You like brutal death only because Suffocation invented it. Nobody has even got close to sounding like Suffocation, they never have and they never will.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Cannibal Corpse's "Butchered at Birth" come out in 91? If so, then Chris was doing some gutteral shit back then too. Not as GOOD as Frank. I doubt anyone can hold Frank's vocals these days.

Yeah Butchered was '91. Just a year later TOTM came out and that had more gutteraler vocals.. But I dont think it really matches any Suffocation stuff.

yeah, but he was trying to be that brutal. CC just falls short of suffocation...its not like they heard effigy and thought well lets write that album, only down one notch
