yea this isnt the right place, bands would have a more appropriate choice, but what do you meen by describing them? like the music or the people in it or what? its kinda hard though you just have to experiance them both. at first i couldnt tell the difference but now i certainly can

There are two hard and fast rules:

1. Death metal is good.

2. Black metal is hideous (except Emperor).

That's all you need to know.

Alright, John, don't start the Black Metal Wars again... Don't dismiss all black metal as crap.

I've explained the difference between Black and Death many times before. Search for the topics next time; they are out there, and already exist.

Well IMO it is. Can you name one really technically skilled black metal band? (Not trying to start anything, I'm just interested)

Dissestion, for starters. Emperor...

I know what you mean. Black Metal is the metal equivalent to Punk (Like, old school punk, as in Black Flag, and the Dead Kennedys). My friend and I proved this point.

ammend that, to state that they have to SHOW it in their music too, not just "Grim Helfrog is an awesome guitarist he can do so much, he just never shows it" shit.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Thats why I started writing a black metal EP so that I could show everyone that black metal takes almost no skill or time to write it.

Its actually pretty good on black metal standards...

Heh, that's why I gradually stopped listening to a lot of black metal. I wouldn't necessarily say Emperor is technically skilled.

I actually thought black metal was really complex and hard to play for a little while, then I actually got hold of some tabs and was like "this is piss easy! fuck this". Heh.

Dissection, got any mp3's of your project?

is black metal supposed to be technical. youre pretty much saying that in your opinion black metal is crap because its not technical, that was your reason anyway. amon amarth isnt technical, does that make them crap too? I write melodic black, but im not technical. damn, i guess im crap also

Nah, its just guitar right now. I'm still trying to convince my best friend to do drums for it. Him and metal are not going together very well right now.

I'll put it on a site once we finish it. I might send it to Fenriz's record company. haha.

Yeah, I agree that sounded a little off. What I meant by technical was not in the traditional sense of the word, but originality, innovation, and at least some musical prowess. Guess technical was the wrong word to use there.

To clear things up further, I find that most black metal lacks the traits mentioned above, which to me are a deciding factor in music. So in a word, yes, I would say most black metal is crap.

Amon Amarth have some degree of technicality, and the qualities mentioned above, so no they are not crap.

And Timedragon, I haven't heard any of your music, so I can't comment.

no problems blizzard.

If you like you can check out on of my favorite bands. Ive linked them in the past and made a thread too, but since you asked for a technical BM band...

Mourn In Silence

listen to "heavan's sword".
I guess the guitar is pretty technical.

Yep the guitar is quite technical, but I still don't like it. I don't know, I can't describe it..3 months ago I would have loved this type of thing. Maybe it's the tone and the vocals, maybe it's because I think it's unorginal.

Strange, I used to be heavily into black metal, now I much prefer death. Most death metal bands I've listened to have a deciding factor which make them unique and fresh, so I guess thats part of the reason.

He isn't starting a "Black Metal war". People like you, who take their opinions as everything but an opinion, start Black Metal wars by being insulted by someone's comment. It's okay, just because John dosen't like something does not mean that it can't be good. I'm sure John feels very flattered, too.
