"OPETH will be entering Fashination street studios on March 15 to record their 8th yet-untitled opus. The band are currently in rehearsal mode, which is a rare occasion having recorded the last 4 records without rehearsing. The recording will be overseen by the uprising recording mogul Jens Bogren. As of today, no names for production duties have surfaced and it looks like the next record will be a band-produced effort. Nothing has been decided regarding who's taking care of the mix either so we'll have to keep you wondering.

Opeth isn't going to change their genre of music for a label. All the songs are basically done being written and they are going in the studio soon. They didn't pick a label yet. So in my mind, I see it as they wrote the album before they picked a label to show the labels they are going to write what they want. I dont know if you just gave Relapse and Metalblade as random examples, but I can't see Opeth going to either one.

Is that just from what you heard on Lamentations, or is it actually a big possibility? Granted, Mikael would do some beastly black metal screams, and they would be able to get the sound, I'd just rather they did another death album.


And the label does matter (regarding to first post) - let's hope they don't get another controlling one like MFN, who made what could have been a ridiculously amazing dvd into a mildly amazing dvd.

as for the label, i could not picture opeth going on relapse.....i'm now century media-phobic (look what they did to the haunted)....hopefully spinefarm will get them. but....mm black metal, yeah i can't fucking wait.

just what i heard on lamentations.i believe it, though. dont expect something thats been done before with this...theyre always talking about evolving and going new directions.

as for never hearing opeth you didnt like... MA,YH is really weak imo.

yes, with the fact that they only did songs from the MFN albums (BwP, D1 and D2). they missed out on the classics, like forest of october, black rose immortal, to bid you farewell, demon of the fall, the moor and other such ripper tracks. ah well, NOT century media.

I disagree. I think Deliverance was great, but pretty repeatative.

The new stuff will probably be good. Opeth are an amazing band, and I have no reason to expect anything less than greatness from them.
