Cacophony - concerto

hey, can anyone explain the theory behind the beginning chord changes in Concerto? It seems like hes outlining G phyrgian with the root of each power chord. But then why does he play Gb on the lead during the 3rd measure, counting in 6/8? It sounds good, but i dont understand it.

if its marty friendman playing he couldnt care less about theory

theory is good and all but dont limit your self too it

you dont even need to use actuall scales to solo in

just mess around with stuff over the chord prog do see what works

scales can be a very good guide line though

Marty makes up his own scales, he has an odd view of the guitar.. and thats why his music is so unique.

Watch melodic control. The man was born to play guitar.

I watch him improvise, and think like..."what the fuck"

Don't kill yourself thinking about it. All I know is they use a lot of harmonic minor in that song

All I could tell is that Friedman likes adding off scale tones and bends and that's how he gets his style.Just watch melodic control, sind is right, and it's probably like a sixth or a flat 5 added so just try to see what interval it is from the root note.

Mixing scales is a good way to find diverse sounds.
