Question

Myself, I mainly use Hirojoshi, Hungarian Minor, Aeolian (Normal Minor), Diminished and Phrygian. the really wierd thing is that I've been playing guitar for about 4 years, and i still don't know the major scale! i really should get round to it, but I'm just too busy learning funky scales. Next up: Spanish, then Kumoi, after that I'll learn Major methinks

Yeah, Hirajoshi is a great scale. Jason Becker and Marty Friedman use it extensively.

I use the Harmonic Minor (Spanish scale) a ton as well

Question

yeah, Hirojoshi is great
BTW, when I said "spanish" I meant the 8 tone spanish scale. I already know Harmonic Minor and Major, but I prefer the sound of Hungarian Minor ( more Eygiptian than arabic, if you catch my drift.)

This one is easier to follow, just because it breaks the modes up into separate positions.

The opening of "The Ninja" is a beauty

Neopolitian Minor

Japanese - Hirajoshi, Kumoi, In
African - Tanzanian, Congolese

I,m thinking it is better if we speak about scale changes which fit perfest except scale swe like to play.
I think its more important the changes between the harmonic minor and the dimished, for example except the scales that are used.

I know my scales, but I find it more practical to come up with my own when needed, since scales like Hirajoshi(*or however you spell it)are based on pentatonic arpeggios,as in ninja,I think(since I don't know how to play the song)it's a G minor add9 plus a b6 or so I believe,so it's just a fragment of an aeolian scale,or so I believe and well,,

Spanish Gypsy, Hindu, Hungarian Gypsy, and Hungarian Gypsy Persian are fun scales.
