Yea I'd have to agree that Kirk is pretty overrated, but even after the Black album and the 2 masturbation albums. He's still a damn good guitarist, but there are equals out there or people better.
I hope this doesn't inspire a "Who is the most underrated guitarist" thread.

I'll agree with John on this, i think Trey is quite a bit overrated. I love the solo in "Where the Slime Live", and a couple tracks on Gateways, but the rest are just......normal. They don't live up to the legend that is "Trey".
I also think Kerry's overrated. Jeff is much better, and cooler.

As I am reading this, Frantic Disembowelment is playing. So you can only imagine what I think about what you have just said.
Kerry is a good guitar player, don't get me wrong. The media and all these guitar wanna be fucks blow him up like he is Malmsteen mixed with Rhoads and Hendrix and whoever else....it just gets old.
I especially don't appreciate BC Rich using him as a marketing tool for SHITTY guitars.

I say Hammet is over rated because he IS. Even his old solos are just the same fucking patterns with wah, wah is all over the old stuff.
Malmsteen is overrated. Wow you jerk off over the same 2 modes and do 3 string arpeggios. Yes, he was one to strat teh neo-classical movement but his runs are very repetitive and Rising Force is really the only album where he displayed decent song writing abaility. Add to this is terribly huge ego and gold chains, you have a douche bag pirate.

lol....sad but true. I don't listen to malmsteen..(why did he mention him again) I just know he is good at blazing fast runs.....thats about it though. The most influential guitarists to me right now are:
Pat O' Brian, and the guitarist from Meshuggah (Fredrik Thorendal and Marten Hagstrom) Luckily they aren't overated because most people that think Kerry King and Kirk Hammet are the best metal guitarist to live are to scared to listen to death metal (or whatever for that matter that we all love here).

Gotta agree with Chris here guys. These guys are probably the most over rated of all. I'm tired of hearing shit about how Dime is so fucking cool. Not all, but most of the people that say he is awesome are either not musicians, or they are horrible musicians and wouldn't know a good musician if one came up and bit them on the ass. ^^^Zakk Wylde^^^^ People at my school also worship hammett like he's god. KK hits random notes for solos. Jimi hendrix is overrated because thats the only guitar player anyone has ever heard of so they love him. Yngwie plays boring random fast shit mostly, although i do like a few songs. |

I Don't really think Trey is overrated. Are there better? of course. But whatever.
I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say Hammett. That Post-'89 solo shit is a joke and has "let's please the record company executive" all over it.
And of course, Muhammed Suicmez, Luc Lemay and Daniel Mongrain are sooooooooooo overrated.  |
