Drum Machine Help

yeah, so i got an SR-16 a few months ago and i have just been fooling around witht he thing and my beats kinda suck. i want to make grindcore/death metal songs but the beats i make just dont match the style. i was wondering if anybody has tips for assembling death/grind drums or any sudjestions on the tunings or drum sounds that are good also. the only thing i know is to tune 1 bass drum to +2 and the other to +3 so i can get a good double bass sound.

I hate programming beats within the machine, so I'd suggest you invest in a USB MIDI interface. Then you can pirate a host recording program with MIDI sequencing built-in, program out all the beats, run it as midi through the machine, and use the analog outs to record the beats back into the computer.

By the way, how does the SR-16 sound? I've been looking into buying one.

the sound itself is really good there all realistic and iv gotten drum tabs off this site and programed them in and they sound just the like the real stuff but with different sets of course. but yeah its easy to use , like the way its setup, not confusing after the fist half an houron it. the sr-16 is like 15 years old but that says how good it is since there makin them still, but since its that old compared to a boss dr-770 the sounds arent as good. i wouldnt spend 400 bucks on that though when you can buy an sr-16 for 150. its a good machine.

Do you know how much money it would cost to get the cables and watever else i would need to do that?

MIDI interfaces run pretty cheap, this should do you just fine. As for a host application, I recommend Cubase SX3, which you can get off bittorrent pretty easily, here's a great torrent for it. AFter that, all you're gonna need is a standard guitar cable to connect it to your computer to record with. the only thing I'm unsure about is a drum map for the sr-16, but I'm pretty sure it comes with one, I'll have to check.

In cubase, you can either program the stuff as MIDI notes or organise those notes as a drum map. If the one in the manual gives the MIDI note, you can make your own drum map.

If you have problems making "metal" drum beats the best advice is probably to listen harder and closer to the drum beats in music you like, check out drum tabs (as you have done), etc. until metal beats is second nature to you
