Hey my bro wants to know which would be the best possible strings for slap bass.... He uses DR and GHS but the coating seems to wear fast he says, so what would you guys recommend? Thanks

I wouldn't know about bass strings (mainly because I don't play the bass), but I use Dean Markley Blue Steel strings on my guitar and I haven't had to put a new set on for months. Once again, this is lead guitar sound and not slap bass sound I'm taking about. It's just a suggestion.

I'm still trying out strings myself, but I like the feel and tone of Elixirs. One problem is they are expensive, but it is usually worth it because they last WAY longer than most regular strings. It does get a bit annoying when the protective coating starts to come off though. I currently have Daddarios on my bass and I'm regretting the purchase. They lost a great deal of tone after only 2 weeks, and they don't have that "smooth" feel to them. I guess experiment with different kinds strings. It's too bad bass strings are so expensive though ...

for slapping? DR high-beams of fat beams. (marcus miller signature strings!)

ernie balls wear out of tone fast and warwick strings sound a bit darkish on most basses it seems.

if the guy wants a coating that stays on long, take those elixirs. they suck though. but they do keep their tone for a long time.

Well on the topic of 'Tone' every pair of strings i buy whether they be Rotosound, Warwick, Ernie Ball, etc etc, they always go from crisp tinny sounding to used warm/used sounding after a week, probably because i play or not, but they use there new tone in about a week, and all sound the same after that.. But yeah i would suggest warwick, they usually last the longest for me.. and surprisingly enough there cheaper than any other bass strings in the shop.

I've had a set of those before for bass and I've never broke strings that quick in my life..I usually get cheap Ernie Ball single replacements...Im in dire need for a new set though.

I remember when i first got my P-bass when i was starting bass, i was an absolute beginner, and the strings didnt break for 2 years, and thats like 1 year learning on the thing, playing slayer over and over again, with a pick, like jamming through the SOH album. and they lasted 2 years.. amazing, i wonder what strings they put on that thing..

Haha, Maybe thats a bad sign? where do they break at the bridge or half way up your fretboard? or other?.. mine always unwind at the bridge, if yours break a lot at the bridge then its obviously your bridge racks that keep your strings inplace are chewing into your string, check to see the marks on your strings if so..

Why do they suck? (I'm not necessarily disagreeing, I just want to know your reason) I find the B-string sounds dead. I guess it's really hard to make a B with tone.

Have you tried Elixirs? Does this happen to them too?

How come I've never seen these Warwicks before? Are they hard to find, or are the music stores in my city crappy?

Added:To avoid confusion, "guitar_demon" is a guitar player, and that explains why he breaks a string per month. Also I've never heard of a string breaking anywhere except at the bridge or the nut.

Yeah i got a pair of black labels with my thumb BO when i bought it, they lasted a good while.. i did like 20 gigs in the space of 2 months and they survived it. but in England black labels are a bit rare in the music shops around here.
