Metallica was ahead for a while, but when Megadeth released Rust in Peace it eclipsed anything Metallica's done. That's all I can say. I can't choose one or the other, however; it's too close and the pre-eminence of Rust in Peace doesn't make me forget that the first four Metallica records were my school of rhythm guitar for a while.

Well alot of Ride the Lightning was also written by Mustaine.
Theirs not competition anyways, Megadeth is MUCH better.

yeh, Master of Puppets was the first Metallic CD to have nothing written by Mustaine on it. It says so in a book Ive read called "Sound of The Beast: The Complete Headbanging History of Heavy Metal" Mustaine has also said so in a few interviews.

I actually like Metallica just a little better. I think Master Of Puppets is by far the best Metallica album. I love Megadeth but I like Metallica just 0,01% better.

i used to be huge into old metallica, but then i realized most of what i listened to was RTL kill, and puppets. considering 2 of the three albums i liked were done by mustaine anyway, and megadeth was much more consistent with quality albums (we'll ignore his alterna album). so overall nowadays i'd go with megadeth all the way. ask me 5 or 6 years ago the answer may have been different though

Reguardless of what they or any of the HRDCRE $tallica fans say, after their last album, I don't even consider them to be musicians anymore.
At least Megadeth never sold out. Ride The Lightning is the only consistent album from Metallica. Megadeth had Peace Sells, Rust In Piece, and Countdown To Destruction. Those three releases are better than all metallica put together. But thats just my own opinion.
Neither side can deny the impact on the music community made by 'tallica.
