noisegate/supresser

whats a good one to get? and how do they work? do they just zone in on a certain frequency and destroy it or does it set a limit and everything below a certain noise level not get through?

I have one built-in my powerball

the boss stompbox-pedal one is good, they take out weird fuzz noises and shit, they zone out the weird shit in your sound, I don't know how they work exactly, but they do actually work. you can set your own limit on those pedals (and on some amps too, like mine, the higher you set it, the more it influences your sound)

I have the Boss ns model, and you put it right after your guitar, it stops your guitar from 'ringing out' when your volume is up high. Im not exactly sure how/why it works. But it doesnt work if it is after a distortion pedal, so it does nothing with any sound other the feedback of your pickups.

a noise gate.... when a certain level hits the gate, it it instantly(so fast you wont notice it's there) opens and lets your sound through, and when the level goes back down the gate closes... you can choose the decay(how long it takes for the gate to close) so it doesnt cut your notes or sustain. the decay knob is something newbs need to learn how to use before they complain about noise gates cutting sustain.

there are other features on some units that automatically sweep out certain non guitar noises to quite your siganl at all times... all that hiss and buzz. like the hush feature on a unit like my super C, it just reduces some unwanted noise, while it also has a gate for feedback-ish stuff...
