SLAYER!!!!!!! Far superior band, influence...so much of their (Pantera) stuff after CFH was just heavy for the sake of heavy and sounded idiodic.

But Slayer still did play a significant role in the development of those styles. And another point, after songs like "Angel of Death" and "Necrophobic", there were dozen's of bands running to their medical dictionaries to write their lyrics. With Pantera, you had bands running around replacing lyrics with poetic hissy fits using "fuck" and "shit" instead of intelligent words thus contributing to the notion that metal is juvenile music (not that it already wasn't).

Well maybe, but I think Death influenced death metal more. This may not be the reason, but its called death metal not slayer metal. But thats just me talking, it may not be the reason why death metal is called death metal.
As for Slayer and Pantera, Pantera by far. To me, anyone can do what Tom does. His vocals to me are nothing special and I can't hear his bass at all. As for Pantera, Phil is a much better singer. He actually is a talented singer, he has variety in his vocals. And Dimebag could kick Kerry Kings ass as far as guitar goes. Rex is a much better bassist than Tom. As far as drums, it could go either way.
Oh, and about that whole because of Slayer death metal/black metal would not exist comment, By Demons Be Driven by Pantera sounds more like death metal than anything Slayer ever did. Not saying that Pantera ever really influenced any death metal, just saying Pantera kicks ass!

it's something like this if i remember correctly:
punk > thrash (started with Overkill doing punk covers) > death metal (started with Possessed)
from Possessed onwards, we all know what happened.

Maybe, but if you read closely I said Death influenced death metal more than Slayer. I never said Death started death. But they probally did, I never put much though in to it. Did I mention this is my opinion, don't take me serious.

That maybe so, but about 90% of the world's population believes there is a higher power beyond all we know. Just because a lot of people believe in something doesn't mean its right. Ouch! How do you like that Bitch! j/k

SLAYER YOU MOTHERFUCKERS! SLAYER!
I mean, nobody has to make a choice here. Slayer is the only choice. This whole poll should have looked like this:
Choice 1: Slayer
Choice 2: SLAYERRRR!!!!
Choice 3: Slayer, motherfucker, Slayer.
Choice 4: All of the above.
Slayer, even in their later stages, after went past their prime still made good songs. Pantera are okay to me, but no Pantera song ever made me as pumped as a Slayer song.

Those pictures, as horrendously cheesy are they are (I have one on my bedroom wall), don't even come CLOSE to pictures I could break out of Metal Magic/Projects in the Jungle era Pantera. Diamond Darrell? What the fuck?
Obviously Slayer, Pantera don't even come close. Well, unless you are comparing Vulgar Display of Power/Far Beyond Driven with nu-Slayer, then I'd have to give Pantera the nod. At their respective primes, nod goes to Slayer. Overall, still goes to Slayer.

It's virtually impossible not to give the nod to Slayer, and if Slayer doesn't win this will be a travesty. But I refuse to definitively choose between the two, so I'm not voting.
Of course, if you let in Pantera's first three records, the fight's stopped before the weight-in. Put 'Down Below' - and I mean the original, not the self-cover they did with Phil to show their fans, whoever they were at the time, how much better they were - up against 'Chemical Warfare' and it doesn't even resemble a contest.

Dimebag kicks Kings ass
I'm going to ask a stupid question...
A stupid friend of mine said that the lead singer of Pantera came out of the closet and he's gay...
Is that true
