Drum Triggers...

I know what drum triggers do but how does the sound get out? Are they only used for shows or can you hear them practicing by urself or when ur jamming?

as long as they are micced up to something and turned on when you practice sure they can be used, but you will more likely just here your natural bass sound, UNLESS you plug it into headphones, but then you will only hear your bass unless you trigger the entire kit.

as for what sounds you can get out of them, ANY sound is possible, you could have a chicken sound for your bass if you wantes, as long as you have a sound clip for it,

I think you need the thing that you plug the mics into (can't remember what the fuck it is called) like an effects board?!? or something but I am not too sure, I don't use triggers and don't know too much about them.

And here I had no idea Neal Peart was in a black metal band. Thanks for clearing that up, Tranny.

I'd assume they can be used at any time, so long as you've got them set up properly. The kiwi black metal drummer probably got it as accurate as anyone will.

triggers are plugged into a module (alesis dm-5 for example) and the Dm-5 is run directly into the mixing board, then the sound comes out through the monitors, i need to trigger my kit.

Your right at least thats how we do it live, when I play at home I just run from my triggers to my DDRUM brain to my amp I just got a 150watt keyboard amp. of course you can hear the triggers over your natural drum sound that is what a volume knob was invented for.

i think triggers sound like shit. Espcially live. If your right up front in the crowd and they are using triggers you can barley hear them and all the other drums and cymbals are loud. I think it sounds better with out triggers.

no, you plug the all your triggers into a module, then you run a cord from the module to the amp/mixer.

They aren't MICS. they are triggers. and they use mic cords and the cord goes from the trigger to the module (in my case a DDrum brain) then from there an instrument cable runs from the module to the amp and shazam that is the order of operation.

And Sixfeetunder420 you must have been at an amateur show or something cause if they were using triggers then you would have been able to hear the drums perfectly with everything. So either the bands you've seen that use triggers don't know how to mix for shit or they aren't using triggers and your just stupid. But fact of the matter is that your statment is retarded, it doesn't make sense 'you can't hear drums over cymbals when they use triggers'. Or maybe just maybe they are really really shitty triggers. It would be one thing to say you like acoustic drums over triggered ones but you can't hear it very well is a very stupid thing to say. so your retarded.

And to Tranny you don't even play drums get the fuck out of here.

for real... it makes no sense to me why he couldnt hear the acoustic drums as good as the cymbals..... the kids set must have been triggered practice pads or something.

maybe he just doesn't know what the fuck triggers are.

you can put them on an acoustic set(which still produces the same acoustic sounds and volume) and run it through a mixing board... good way to mix shitty drums live imo... because some people don't know how to tune... it's just harder to fuck up imo.

i prefer the good old acoustic sound most of the time, but triggered bass drums are nice for the drummer that hits softer with one foot.

you could get into digital drums like the roland vdrum shit, but that's a whole different world.

I have seen Behemoth + krisiun+ragnatork+ incantation and the double bass sounded very well playing with a trigger. I adore this things because it sounds brutal and seems like the double bass is perfect especially if you play almost perfect without it

Triggers are used mostly for sound, not playing ability.

alot of people think triggers will make a drummer play cleaner... not true... you still have to be a good drummer with good technique.. triggers wont cover your mistakes that much, they can in some ways like if a drumer tends to hit softer with his left foot when he rolls on double bass, the triggers will help even the volume. but as far as timing, if he's fluttering up on his shit then the triggers wont hide it, in fact they will probably make it more notice able.

so don't think getting triggers will make you a better drummer...

Not cheating. If you can plug a guitar into an amp, why couldn't you do so with a drum?

I can play very fast double bass but I hit my pedals/bassdrum very light when doing so. So I can't use this without triggers (I don't have those) because you can't hear fuck of it.

With my experience of triggers, i certainly don't regard it as cheating, it's no different to a guitarist using FX pedals and amp. I think they are better suited to studio means. Some samples are great and you can customise your sound a treat... There are many different modules and samples on the market so the world is your oyster

if you hit both bass drumms equally wheather hard or soft thats fine, but if you hit one hard and one soft you need to practice to get them equall.i only meant its cheating to use the triggers to even up the volume of your kick.

Triggers are ostensively the same as a mic just they pickup alot more than a mic can.
