How much would and average starter drum set cost?

My friend Andrew wants to know how much a nice starter drum set would cost. Any ideas?

Yes, it's for my friend. I have no interest in drums, I'm getting a guitar this Christmas. He might be asking for drums for Christmas but doesn't know much about what to get.

it all depends on what you want. if you want a kit just for the hell of it, you can get one from 300-500 bucks. you may be happy with it for 2-3 months. you'll then realize its total crap.............if you're in it for the long haul, it is better to save and spend the 700-1000+ for a good kit. the difference you save on a cheap kit you will make up for it in replacing the cheap hardware. look around for a good used drum kit. you shouldnt have any problems finding one. you may be lucky and end up with a better kit than you think. good luck.

My first set cost like $350 (USD). 5 drums + hi-hat + Crash/Ride. The drums are alright. But the hi-hat is shit and always crooked and I have only one crappy crash/ride. But the plus is that the cymbals and hi-hat can easily be replaced.

I suggest (as always) buying a pearl export series as they are good quality reasonably priced drum kits for begginers and they will last until you start to play live shows semi-professionally, they are good kits until you start playing drums for a living, and even then they are not too far off the mark....
