Acoustic

Does anyone here know of any cool sounding acoustic songs on guitar that aren't too hard and not too easy? I don't wan't that haul ass finger picking type but just something that is pretty chilled out and sounds sweet and regular tuning. I have put my electric down for a bit lately (well every guitar) and been playing the shit outta drums but now getting back into guitar a ton again (and drums still too) but wan't to get back on acoustic some since that's what I have been playing with lately.... Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

blackbird by the beatles is extremely easy but a lot of fun to play.. very soothing on the acoustic. one of my favorite acoustic songs.

babe i'm going to leave you by led zep is also great to play on the acoustic. it's a bit more challenging than blackbird, but not really difficult.

classical gas by mason williams is another step up in difficulty.. maybe 2 or 3 steps, actually. it's very fun, though.

Ok sweet thanks guy's. Yeah Babe I'm Gonna Leave you is a fun song to play, I love Led Zep though. What about any metal songs though? There is that song called Lethe from Dark Tranquillity (sp) and the begginning has kind of a acoustic sound. I wan't something kind of like a dark tone to it you know? Hard to explain....

i second that

at the gates - and the world returned. delicious song, except the problem with that is that is has 3 guitar parts.
alternately their other one, into the dead sky, has a bunch of horrendous bar chords that will probably leave you with arthritis
(although only one guitar track)

sepultura - kaiowas is fun and easy, and in dropped D tuning.

Pred, that song is perfect man, sounds kick ass. Does anyone else know of any songs with that type of sound to it? Let me know because that is basically just what I am looking for right there. Too bad that song isn't longer and didn't add more shit in. I am going to mess with that on my drums too and just throw shit in and screw with it to make something up.

How do you do pinch harmonics on an acoustic guitar? If you know a way, then I definitely want you to show me.

As has already been said, "Desolate Ways" is great. After that, it's often just bits and pieces of songs (with a few exceptions). The intro to Slayer's "Spill the Blood" is great. The intro to Anthrax's "Armed and Dangerous is also great.

Metal Church's "Gods of Wrath" is a great, it's not acoustic, but it can be played on an acoustic just fine as there are no effects involved with the rhythm parts.

Fates Warning "In a Word" is a good song, most (if not all) should be easily converted to acoustic.

Death's "Voice of the Soul" is an excellent choice if you stick with the rhythm parts.

The intro to Forbidden's "Follow Me". Forbidden's "Parting of the Ways" is entirely acoustic, and it's great.

Cannibal Corpse mentioned Nile's "Beneath Eternal Oceans of Sand", which I listened to early today, the intro/outro is a great acoustic piece.

The intro to Exodus "No Love" is great stuff. The whole Exodus song "30 Seconds" is fabulous, but very difficult, at least for me.

The intro to Testament's "Burnt Offerings" is great. Almost the entire Testament song "Musical Death (A Dirge)" is acoustic, and great. Much of Testament's "The Ballad" is acoustic, it's pretty good. Much of Testament's "Return to Serenity" is acoustic, there are two versions, one of which seems to have more acoustic in it (I could be wrong, but that's how I remember it), it's an excellent song. The whole Testament song "The Beginning of the End" is acoustic, it's essentially an intro to the next song, but it's good stuff.

Annihilator's "Crystal Ann" is a great track, it's entirely acoustic, I'm not sure if it's difficult or not, I haven't tried playing with it.

Judas Priest's "Beyond the Realms of Death" is an excellent song, about 30% of it is acoustic, including the first minute or so.

Black Sabbath's "Sleeping Village" is a great acoustic track, a bit easy though. "Planet Caravan" is a track that is easily converted to acoustic, it's very atmospheric, great stuff. "Embryo" is a track, I'm not sure if it's acoustic, but if it's not, it's easily converted to acoustic. "Orchid" is a great acoustic song. "Laguna Sunrise" is one of my all time favorite acoustic songs. "Fluff" is a pretty song, most of it played on acoustic guitar (with various other instruments in there). "Don't Start (Too Late)" is another nice acoustic track. Parts of "Megalomania" and "Symptom of the Universe" are also acoustic, both are excellent songs. Much of "Children of the Sea" is acoustic. Much of "The Sign of the Southern Cross" is acoustic, it's one of my favorite Sabbath songs. Holy shit! I never noticed Black Sabbath have so much great acoustic stuff until thinking about it now!

Much of Mercyful Fate's "Into the Unknown" is acoustic stuff, that whole song kicks ass.

Sepultura's "The Abyss" is a great acoustic track.

Much of Metallica's "To Live is to Die" is acoustic, it's one of my favorite Metallica songs. The intro to "...And Justice for All" is great, and it's one of the first acoustic pieces I learned.

Ozzy Osbourne's "Diary of a Madman" has extremely good acoustic parts in it, a classic song. The outro of the Ozzy song "S.A.T.O" also is riddled with excellent acoustic work. Of course the song "Mama, I'm Coming Home", but I probably don't have to tell you that!

Alice in Chains' entire Jar of Flies EP is filled with great acoustic stuff. The song "Down in a Hole" has marvelous acoustic work in it. The intro to their song "Bleed the Freak" is acoustic (the rhythm, anyway), but it's a tad easy. The intro to "Love, Hate, Love" is easily converted to acoustic. Most or all of the song "Confusion" is also easily converted to acoustic. Some of the song "Over Now" is acoustic, and most of the parts that aren't are just as easily converted to acoustic. The song "Rooster" is largely acoustic, most of what isn't is easily converted. Alice in Chains also had an unplugged album, it's good stuff. AIC are another great band acoustically.

I could rattle of tons of Led Zeppelin songs, but I'm sure I wouldn't be saying anything that you wouldn't already know. Well, maybe except for "The Rain Song" and parts of "Achilles Last Stand", that's primo stuff that people don't often talk about or know how to play.

Death Angel's "A Room With a View" is very nice, most of it is acoustic. "Veil of Deception" is entirely acoustic.

Exhorder songs "Soul Search Me" and "A Tragic Period" both have some parts of acoustic brilliance.

There is acoustic work riddled throughout Cynic's lone album.

Much of Pink Floyd's good work involves acoustic stuff, and for anybody who cares, no, you are wrong, Floyd sucked with Barret in it. I mean, what, you had Astronomy Domine and that's about it for good songs with him. Enough said.

You will find good acoustic work on just about any Fates Warning album, but especially No Exit.

That's all I can think of for now. You can PM me with any more questions.

I've definitely got to second this one, dude. "Desolate Ways" is truly a brilliant and heartfelt song. Fun to play too.

Chris, thanks, that is a pretty good list there. I will check most of those out and see what I can do to them. I am learning Desolate Way's. I suck at finger picking or should I say sucked, but that song has helped me lots with being able to move around more with finger picking. I used to be able to just finger pick a couple things out and hit the E string with the pick and rest with fingers but now I am getting the hang of it better... For the Led Zep songs, hah I know every one of those, well I can't play em all but shit they are my favorite band of all and Pink Floyd is good as shit and Eric Clapton. I know most of you guy's don't like that kind of stuff but I don't care, I always listen to that kind of shit, it all just depends.

Nobody is forgetting "Beneath Eternal Oceans of Sand" because it was already mentioned. Look at my post, I named like 92 billion songs, give or take a few. The only reason I mention this is because I had to really tap my brain to think of all those songs and it appears as though people aren't even seeing it.

It just annoyed me a little bit to see people pop in and mention one song without any description when the song was already mentioned before, because they haven't read the rest of the thread. It just seems to make more sense to me that if you are going to mention something that has already been mentioned before, let people know you are reiterating something already mentioned. I'm not angry right now, and this isn't really directed specifically at you, I just see this a lot in other posts, people repeating things that have already been said several times before (especially questions about songs).

Good mention on "Unas...", by the way.

The intro to 'A Farewell to Kings,' by Rush, is a good one, as is their 'Closer to the Heart.' They have other good acoustic songs, but they aren't coming to mind at the moment.

You can play at least parts of 'Intro to Reality,' by Anthrax, on the acoustic, and it's a nice little piece.

I'd recommend Mr. Rhoads' 'Dee,' which is a bit tricky but not too hard.

'Landing on the Mountains of Meggido' is a pretty easy one by Down, and for a bit more interesting they have 'Pray for Locust,' which is practically a Sabbath instrumental.

Much of 'Dreaming Neon Black,' by Nevermore, is acoustic if memory serves.

Zakk Wylde's Book of Shadows is loaded with good acoustic songs, and you can find them sprinkled about over his various projects. His are usually good, since they're neither absurdly easy nor particularly difficult.

One of my personal favorite acoustic songs is SRV's 'Life by the Drop.'

Oh, and there's an acoustic version of Sepultura's 'Kaiowas' that I like.

That's about what I can think of just now, but it's not as though there's a lack of acoustic songs to find.

If it happens again, you're going in the time-out chair. Third offense and you stand in the corner, young man.

I forgot to mention one of my all time favorite acoustic intros- "A.D.I. Horror of it All" by Anthrax. I wrote a shitload of acoustic shit today, coincidently.

I can't believe I mentioned Anthrax and forgot 'A.D.I.'! I was just listening to it last night. Damn.

Another one I meant to mention but forgot was 'Pallar Anders Visa,' by In Flames. Good little tune.

Credit to Dementia, that song from In Flames is good I forgot about like a ton you guy's mentioned. Like I forgot about all the Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, In Flames, etc and I listen to it all the time. I don't have a great memory and only remember about songs like that when I hear them.
Thanks though, hopefully I will have time to check out some of these songs that I have never listened to or heard of.
