you must be joking or retarded if you think that les is the only bassist that shows any kind of skill.
honestly i think people give claypool to much credit. he is godly at the bass, no doubt, but, THERE ARE BETTER BASSIST'S OUT THERE.

Alex is by far one of the most well-respected and most talented bassists in the whole death metal genre. I had the pleasure of getting to know Alex for a while, and he was very happy to sit down with me and show me how he does some of the tapping techniques that he excels at. He also told me how he got to be that good...by watching lots of instructional videos, as someone else pointed out, that are not strictly metal, and practising like a mad man.
One of the main things that make Alex such an impressive bassist, is that he is pretty well the main writer for Cannibal Corpse. Look at the writing credits on almost all the CD's...
His 3-fingered playing technique is amazing to watch, aswell. He back-picks with his index finger to fill it out to what lots of people assume is a 4-fingered playing technique. (As far as I know, the only bassists out there playing with all 4 fingers are Jason Blackowitz from Divine Empire (ex-Malevolent Creation) and...well...me!)
But listen to Mummified in Barbed Wire for some of his amazing 2-handed tapping...it's mind-numbing.

Alex Webster
Man, Alex Webster's style is SO hard to learn, the left hand speed isnt the issue, it's that fucking 3 finger plucking man, holy shit I wish he had an instructional video out there somewhere that would help or maybe he does, anyone know if he's ever made one or ever will?

On the Cannibal Corpse website's forum I'm pretty sure I read that Alex was planning an instructional dvd sometime soon.

Well, Steve DiGorgio (who also uses 3 fingers) has an instructional section on his website. It teaches you how he learned to play 3 finger and if you're feeling ambtitious learning 4 fingers is essentially the same thing (though it may take longer to learn).
http://www.stevedigiorgio.com/tablature.html
It's the last one: 'Beginning Bass - Column'.

Yeah I checked their site out, he said he probably will get started on making an instructional video, I cant wait for that one there arent many good bass instructional videos out there, nevermind metal ones, so I'm quite looking forward to it apparently he's a really nice guy too so I'm sure the video will be really good.

This thread is stupid...........
ALEX WEBSTER IS BY FAR THE GREATEST BASS PLAYER EVER!!!!!!!!
EVERYONE KNOWS THAT!!!!!!!
I have the bass solo from the dvd recorded on my phone as my ring tone. The one that's about 25 seconds long. After he says something aout incorparating different styles to have more variation in death metal.

Corpse in studio
Heres for all you Alex Webster fans out there, or Cannibal Corpse fans in general. CC recording "Frantic Disembowelment" in the studio, check out websters technique.....in-fucking-sane! It's a 15 MB download so it might take awhile if you arent using high-speed.
Download it here : http://www.savefile.com/files/3436381
Cheers
(by the way, it's an AVI file...so you might need DIVX to play it, I'm not sure)

That came out of no-where? are you relating to Alex webster? if so explain more..
Another look at it, a bass player could be turned down in the mix of the PA, bad micing, shit cab.. etc..

this is going to sound pretty out of place too, but if you want to learn a good excersise for 3 finger style like that check out Spanish Romance. Great Flamenco tune thats just one long 3 string arpeggio progression.

How the hell is the bassplayer a pussy if you can`t hear him live? It`s probably not his fault, but rather the sound guy.

No it's the Wretched Spawn DVD he is talking about learning different types of music to incorparate into death metal and after that he plays this fucking excellent solo.
That Frantic Disembowelment video is fucking great too that's from the same DVD.
