Hey all, im looking for a half stack to buy. Currently I have an Ibanez TB50r (need to get rid of that thing) and a GNX3 as my pre amp. Im looking to get rid of both for a half stack. I dont want to spend to much on it because this will be my first one and I don't want to go balls out on my first purchase. I'm looking at around 500-700 for the head and cab (combined). Im looking for something that is good for death/black/trash/speed/metal. Basically anything from mayhem, dimmu borgir, slayer, satyricon or cannibal corpse. I have looked at some peaveys and they seem good, I looked at the B-52 half stack and it looked good but then read the thread on how the B-52 sounds like "ass" so im backing off that idea. Well with that said can some people point me into a direction. Remember the price thing, dont reply with "well if u are willing to spend "x" more you can get this". K, thanks in advance.

I looked for them on the net and I found the head for 600 (used) and the cab for 500 (used). Thats alot more than im thinking of paying.

Iv been looking and iv found a head that I like. Its the Peavey XXL 100W. I have found it on ebay for under 400. As for the cab I don't want anything to expensive just something thats built like a tank and is loud. I have looked around and found the Behringer Ultrastack BG412H 4x12". So tell me if this sounds good...

I reccomend the peavey XLSupreme. I have one, you lose a channel, but pay 119$ less for new, and you can still get a good cab/speakers for it.

I was looking at the XLSupreme too. I think im going to go a check them out. I wasn't to sure about the XLSupreme because I found some mix reviews. Do you have any sound clips from yours? Also what cab do you have for it?

it wont sound as good as a bv120h on a 1960a that's for sure. hell, the bv would even be a little louder.
those behringer cabs blow goats.... the xxl aint that bad, but there are much better heads to be had for the price.....

And ive played a BV recently, and DAMN i was so surprised. I can get some mean sounds out of that thing... im thinking of picking one up for a backup or something. the 60w heads go for crazy prices.

i don't care that the blue voodoo is crate, but it's a good amp no matter what name you put on it... and the price is awesome....
the marshall cabs are not only well built with a good namesake, but they come stock with great speakers(usually celestion g12t-75's but vintage 30, and greenback style 1960 cabs are also available.).. once again, good for the money....

personally i don't own either... if marshall and or crate would endorse me, i'd gladly play it though.....
but you kinda have to be good enough to go somewhere or currently going somewhere first... so i doubt that will happen anytime soon.

I looked at it and have desided to get the Crate and Marshall stack. I head that the stock tubes were "shit" in the bv102 head, is that true? Bust besides that all the reviews said it was a very good amp with more distortion than ever needed. Just have to sell my old stuff first then going to get it . One more thing, about how much is shipping for a cab over ebay (i know distance matters but just an estimate).

shitty tubes in the bv? ..... maybe the preamp tubes, but the poweramp tubes are groove tubes, and i like em just fine.
in the end though.... if you don't like those tubes, www.eurotube.com can hook you up with all new JJ's preamp & poweramp for like $100... he just hooked my guitarist up with a full set of hand picked jj's for his 5150... it was only like $100 u.s.d.
you'll probably want to retube it soon anyways because who knows how many hours have been put on a used head.

as for shipping.... eh... the head might be like $50-ish depending on who the person goes through. but the cab would be quite a bit more... because it's bigger and weighs more... i'd highly suggest trying to find a used 1960 cab locally.... hell the head too if you can...
but for me it's all a matter of where i can get the best deal.

head local at a shop for $350... or head online for $325... well, after shipping the one online would cost more..... ect.
