admit it, you used to listen to nu-metal
alright everyone, i dont listen to nu metal (except Slipknot... i know you all hate them, but i like them). However, my first exposure to anything near metal was Korn, quickly followed by any other nu metal u could think of. soon, i got into the heavier side of nu metal (slipknot, older staind) then from there, i discovered real metal. i have since grown to dislike nu metal, but i have to admit that it brought me into metal! the softer, catchy shit got me hooked, and i evolved into heavier shit. and i can guarantee at least half of you are the same way. nu metal sucks and all, but it brings people into the realm of good music. so i respect it.

I agree with andrew, i started off with Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, then got into Slipknot, Korn, $Tallica, then within a week or so, i was listening to Opeth, Slayer, At The Gates, Brujeria, The Haunted. All thanks to a mate, so cheers collyer
EDIT: i now find nu-metal repulsive, but andrew did bring up a good point, that it's the gateway into real metal.

Before I listened to music at all (rap is not music), it was my birthday and I recieved a Korn cd (it wasn't even a good one, Untouchables). And I LOVED it! Later, I was sitting in my cousin's car and he put on a band that is now my fav. (Dystopia) and that was when I started listening to REAL metal. I slowly got out of my nu-metal phase and realized it was all bullshit. And now I am the person I am today.
And the funny thing is, the person who put on the Dystopia tape is the same person who gave me the Korn cd.

i hardly ever liked nu metal.
i only ever truely enjoyed 2 nu metal cds (those were 2 years ago as well). that was "dark days" by coal chamber, and "toxicity" by system of a down.
i liked limp bizkit at one point in the fifth grade, but i didnt actually think they were metal and i still dont. i thought they were just rock. also i only liked one or 2 songs from them as well.......

i sadly listened to limp bizkit and slipknot before hearing pantera and finding forums about real metal which made me listen to all the bands they were talking about and realizing how much better they were than numetal

eh the nu metal i listened or listen to is few and far between, i went pretty much from classic rock like zep, deep purple, tull, and sabbath, to grunge (it was big in my formative years), then into normal metal like old metallica, maiden, type o negative, hammerfall, and it just went from there, the only stuff that I personally consider nu metal that i ever really like or still like was um, coal chamber and vision of disorder, i listened to disturbed a bit, but never owned anything by them, and if you wanna call white zombie (not rob) nu metal thats about the extent i went in that direction

I never knew what nu-metal was until I started moderating the old Pantera forum. My first real CD was Vulgar Display of Power, a looooooooong time ago.

He isn't a tabber. Death8699 is a tabber. Inverted is a tabber. But back to the topic, I grazed nu-metal on my way to real metal (I would listen to it on the radio), but I didn't own any nu-metal albums other than Metallica's Load. That's it. I never liked it enough to buy an album. Any part of it that I ever liked disappeared when I started playing guitar and realized how talentless it was.
