some of my favorite openings:
Suffocation - Synthetically Revived
Emperor - Cosmic Keys Of Creation And Time
Coroner - Sudden Fall
closings:
Carcass - Forensic Clinicism -The Sanguine Article
Dusk - The Transfiguration [in my opinion the heaviest riff of all time]
Morbid Angel - God Of Emptiness

The intro to 3 Inches Of Blood - Isle Of Eternal Despair is just awesome. It's like a sledgehammer pounding you in the face with nice little solo things in the right channel.

Indesinence have the best outros (they're a doom band from London, so that gives them +4 coolness factor)

Intro- Slayer's "Raining Blood"
Outro- Between The Buried and Me's "Selkies; The Endless Obsession"
I have several favorite Intro's and outro's. These are just the first that come to my mind at the moment.

Death Walking Terror from the new Cannibal Corpse album has a really good opener. It makes you feel as if you are an undead badass speeding towards the house of your killer waiting to kill him too. I'm not crazy, listen to the song, you'll understand......I swear......

How could I forget that? Awesome intro riff.
Sounds even better when you play it 1.5x normal speed.

oh man....too many. i'll try to cut back on my metal intake, even though i know it's good for me....
intros:
equilibrium - shingo murata
destinity - gloria in excelsis ecclasia [gregorian chant!]
decapitated - spheres of madness
testament - souls of black
behemoth - conquer all
cannibal corpse - severed head stoning
blood red throne - eye-licker
blood red throne - arterial lust [love the double channel thing]
biomechanical - empires of the worlds
borknagar - future reminiscence
opeth - master's apprentice
children of bodom - bodom beach terror [mmmm drums]
children of bodom - bodom after midnight [mmmm more drums]
slayer - raining blood [of course.]
led zeppelin - good times, bad times [it's not metal, but it's so fun to play.]
outros:
borknagar - origin
pantera - floods
opeth - the leper affinity [reminds me of final fantasy vii]
behemoth - slaves shall serve [johnmansley had it right a few posts back ]

Damn straight! Anybody who can't here the pure, unadulterated vitriol in Nergal's vocals during the outro needs their ears testing.

I've always wanted to do a social expierement with that song. You would have to be in a car, pull up to some random black guys, and then bast the "SLAVES SHALL SERVE, SLAVES, SHALL, FUCK,ING, SERVE!!!!" And then test your cars acceleration to its fullest.

Any intro that makes you want to keep listening the first time you hear it is a good intro, any outro that makes you sad the song is almost over is a good outro.

White Zombie's "El Phantasmo and the Chicken-Run Blast-O-Rama" (wierd name) has a kcikass opening. Really fast and driving. Can't believe I forgot about it.

Is this list only for guitar riffs or can the intros and outros include percussion sections as well?
