I remember I used to try and scream, but all I did was squeak. Now I mainly growl and my scream is just a higher-pitched growl with basically the same teqhnique(sp).

Oh, and the more you sing "high," the lower your voice will get. In other words, don't practice growling at all. I've found out that it's pointless.

My growl got better as I practiced. But then again, I have my 80's hair-metal scream I pull out for laughs sometimes that's high as shit.

Eh, well mine never got better. After not trying to growl for like 2-3 weeks and just singing high (Helloween, Pantera, and so on), I did a growl bit and it sounded much better than my usual.It was a lot more scratchy and deeper.

im a grind singer to be, can anyone give me some tips as to who sings from their diaphragm instead of their throat?

some tips for getting a good sound, i find drinking juice before hand helps, especially apple juice. builds up a nice load of mucus in your throat and for me personally, gives me some top growls.

Maybe its just that you hadnt heard yourself sing low for a while so that you forgot how your low vocals sounded so they seemed lower when you started doing them again. Since you were just singing high, you got used to hearing yourself singing high so when you sang lower it sounded much lower.

dude... heres the best formula to do before you go on to growl/scream.
1 20oz bottle of water (to whet your throat)
1 TableSpoon of honey (to buil mucus)
8oz of yagermeister (to burn the chords and make it a little scratchy... substitute with whatevers there if you cant get yager)

How about this - Dont do anything to your fucking voice. If it's not good enough anyway you shouldn't be singing. That goes to everyone that's said "Oh drink this, it scratches your bla bla bla"

tea is really good, it just works, when you growl a lot your throat get's sore after a while and tea softens the pain, especially with some honey.
Drinking booze is nonsense, it just burns and damages the troat.

i try to get flem in my throat for the way i sing, so Coke is really good for that, water works too, but it doesn't produce flem quite so think as coke

While I don't sing, I try to keep my throat in good condition by drinking tea every day.... and because I'm part british.

I will probably be stuck singing. But I can't sing, nor am I fit for the job.

I think tea is good as mentioned...and ice tea for that matter. Also a little bit of chlorseptic I find is also good..Especially if your voice is fucked from a lot screaming/yelling, etc.

ice tea isnt good, you really should use warm drinks, like tea, chocolade or warm milk (tastes very good with honey)
