A quick question

I tuned my accoustic by playing my keyboard. Like for the low e string I would play it on the keyboard and tune like that. and so on and so forth.
Then I tuned my electric by using my accostic, like I did with the keyboard.

Is that a good and effective way to tune a guitar? Or do all of you just get a tuner?

yeah that's pretty effective
you can tune it however you like, you can even use a tuning fork if you want, just as long as it's in tune.
any other questions?

yeh, a piano is a good way cos you can tune the guitar to pretty much anything you like (with a piano, you could tune your bass guitar down to A )

not at all, keyboard is perfect, sometimes i use it, but tuners are accurate too. Its easier to just tune the E and then tune every other string to it though when using a keyboard/tuner.

Keyboards are good for tuning, but beware of pianos - they also can go out of tune so don't always take it for granted that what you are hearing is the exact note.

keyboards aren't *perfect* but neither is a tuner unless its a strobe tuner.

if it sounds right to you, that's quite sufficient. keyboards are very effective. i have one about 1.5 feet away from me, but i still always use either my boss tu-2 chromatic tuner pedal or the built-in chromatic tuner on my digitech gnx3. it's just easier, since i don't have to be next to my keyboard hitting the note and stuff like that.

indeed mister cat.

another suggestion, you need a good ear but tune it to the cd. then for gigs, tune it to the cd before hand. and if you need to tune down in the middle of a gig, tune it another fret that gives the same note.

learning by ear is the best way because, take for example black sabbaths "paranoid" album, the tuning is about 3/4 of the way between E and F, so a tuner will give a normal E and then its a different pitch which is immensely frustrating .

i hope all that rambling helps.

I use PowerTab to tune when I'm on my computer. Otherwise, I tune by playing with something I know is accurately tuned (Reign in Blood for Eb, Master of Puppets for E, etc.). Sometimes I just tune by ear, which is usually okay, but I'm better off using one of the other methods and so are you.

Yesterday, I found a lesson on how to tune by ear. Apparently when I did that, I found out one of my strings was out of tune. IT was tuned 1 step higher than it should be.

Ill use my keyboard to tune my acoustic. And I use Slayers 'raining blood' to make sure my electrics are in tune.

I only tune the e string, and use harmonics to tune the rest.
