Got two sweep questions.
1. Is it best to attack the strings harder with a stiff hand, or keep it loose? Both of these methods work, but It seems clearer if I attack pick harder...but that's a pain in the ass.
2. When I'm sweeping in downstrokes, and planning to sweep back up, should I end my last note with an upstroke and keep going, or just end with a downstroke and start back up?

im really loose in the and i pick rather gently and the ONLY thing i move is my wrist and possible fingers, and smothly let it roll.
2 prolly end with a downstoke and come up.

Sweeping Issues
I've been trying to pick up sweeping and i'm having a few problems. all the videos i have watched don't really tell you much. i was wondering if anybody has any tips. My problem seems to be ( i think) is that i'm not sure how to mute the strings correctly, they're either too muted and it sounds stupid, or not enough then i end up just getting alot of string noise. And what part of my hand should be muting the strings? Also does a lower action help with sweeping? And does anyone have any good tips on how to build up speed + coordination? Is there one decent video either on dvd or something that actually really explains all the aspects of sweeping?

Hi, everyone!
I've been through the whole 22 pages of this thread and found a lot of useful stuff.
However, since I'm still a beginner, I couldn't understand certain parts. So, I was wondering whether you guys knew of any good books and / or videos that I could get to help me learn the basics.
So far, users here have mentioned Petrucci's "Rock Discipline" dvd and The Guitar Grimoire, among others.
Are there any other titles you'd like to recommend? Thanks!
