And to BassBehemoth:
Well then you should réally check out Alghazanth. I'd use another song as exhibit, but I only found this one on youtube to be representative. Their older stuff had different vocals and more keys though. I became a fan of this band before ever hearing their music, reading the lyrics sold them to me.

A pretty good "melodic" black metal band is Perpetual Dusk.
Have you ever heard of them?

Thanks dude. I liked what I heard. I'll definitely consider picking up an album or few. Perpetual Dusk sounded pretty good as well.
I also dislike gimmicky black metal too..although that obviously hard to avoid and write off. I recently ordered The Funeral Pyre's new album, Wounds , as well as a few others. Can't wait for it.

myspace.com/runesoftheevening this is the band I'm currently in...I know I'm a whore for this but I figured this might be up your alley. Right now all we have up are the guitar tracks and some midi drums, better versions w/ vocals and real drums are on the way.
someone mentioned vesperian sorrow earlier, love their music...great band.
